A MAN OF THE FIFTIES
on 22 May 2011
Hancock was at his height when this record was first produced - but it doesn't lose any of the original pleasure that one first received from the recording. He was and still remains my favourite comedian - there was nothing vicious about him as with some of the modern comedians, but his success was to bring his downfall - he thought he could go it alone and lost Simpson and Galton to Steptoe and Son. In a way his suicide was not surprising - but his memory lives on through recordings such as these, but Sunday afternoon was his best!
