Beware - especially if you already have this Hancock gem on vinyl. This CD has been dubbed from a disc. Unfortunately the disc used wasn't in the best of condition and there are also a couple of audible 'clunks'. I could have loaned them my copy! Until a CD/MP3 is made available from the original master (presumably owned either by Universal [ex Pye] or the BBC), I suggest you make a copy of your own LP if you have one.

Yes, shame that it has been badly dubbed from vinyl, after waiting for 50 years!! All episodes long since out on CD, anyway, but THIS one was well liked because of Hancock's specially recorded introductions to each extract.
What with EMI preventing BBC issuing its own complete, Goon Shows, (coz it was allowed grammophone rights in perpetuity, yet not even issuing all of even their hacked-up versions) I despair of these big companies who don't even seem to KNOW what they're issuing or sitting on.....!!

Hancock was at his height when this record was first produced - but it doesn't lose any of the original pleasure that one first received from the recording. He was and still remains my favourite comedian - there was nothing vicious about him as with some of the modern comedians, but his success was to bring his downfall - he thought he could go it alone and lost Simpson and Galton to Steptoe and Son. In a way his suicide was not surprising - but his memory lives on through recordings such as these, but Sunday afternoon was his best!

I have to disagree with the reviewers who complain about it being copied from an old lp. It sounds fine to me and great to listen to at any time. Yes it does sound like an old record but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. Worth it just for the links perfeormed by Hancock. All in all a good buy.

A good selection of extended quality humour from the Galton & Simpson canon, and brilliantly performed by Hancock, Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Bill Kerr and Hattie Jacques. Some of the humour I already have on other CD's such as the bit when Williams pushes the ejector seat buttons on the plane - resulting in the usual hilarity. An unexpected bonus of Tony introducing each segment is a nice added touch.

Just a note on the listenability of this release. I listen to Radio 4 extra quite a lot (mostly for Hancock on Wednesdays), but if you compare the recordings of some of the Steptoe & Son broadcasts against this "Pieces of Hancock" cd, then this cd is a better quality listen, and remember, Hancock was years before Steptoe. Therefore, I am pleased enough with the sound quality - the recording is not perfect but is not too bad either.

It is just the way I remember it as a child. Just as funny and it brought back a lot of memories. No complaints.

I was brought up listening to Tony Hancock and find it just as funny as I did when I was a kid.
