Having grown up with this series as a young child, I bought this for nostalgic reasons and was not disappointed. I am twenty years old now and I have recently watched this with my Mother and we both thoroughly enjoyed it, it has some really funny moments which I have noticed even more as an adult than I ever did as a child, It's both adventurous and exceedingly humouress, something in which both adults and children can equally enjoy. The picture is also brilliant considering this is quite an old series.

All I can say now is I hope they release the Secret Series also done my Cloud 9 entertainment.

Dvd box set arrived two days after I had ordered it from Amazon, which was a nice surprise!
I had read all of Enid Blyton's books as a child, so was interested to see a series made of her stories. I was not disappointed with this box set. Considering, it is mainly for children. Adults can enjoy this series too. There are some funny moments, but also serious. I recommend anyone to take a look at this marvellous series...

Very enjoyable Australian version of original stories, but don't expect them to be like the books: they bear almost no relationship! Recommended for Blyton fans, young and old.

These were my favorite books when I was a young boy, and always dreamed of having adventures like these four children had. Now as an adult I was delighted to see that they were now on DVD and have been very satisfied with the results.

I've been reading the stories to my 7 year old daughter, and came across this DVD set. I'm afraid I don't share the enthusiasm of the other 5-star reviewers. Firstly, the child actors don't resemble the descriptions in the books. Jack and Lucy-Ann are supposed to be freckled red-heads, but here they have brown and blond hair respectively. Bill is described as middle-aged and balding, whereas in the DVDs, he is young and good-looking, with a full head of hair. Then, the children have clearly-discernable Antipodean accents, which jar with the English setting.

But while the decision to update the series from the forties to the nineties was probably not a bad one (brick-sized mobile phones notwithstanding,) the plots have been altered, sometimes radically, for no obvious reason. The second story in the series, The Castle of Adventure, has become The Wood of Adventure, with a very different storyline, including a rather scary psychopathic character dressed as a monk whom my daughter found quite disturbing. The Mountain of Adventure is relocated from Wales to Bavaria, presumably to exploit the rugged scenery of New Zealand, where it was actually filmed.

The theme music is also rather naff. It is written by Simon May, composer of, among others, the theme to Howard's Way, which it somewhat resembles.

Having said that, my daughter did enjoy watching them, and was less troubled by the accents and the plot changes, hence the 3 stars. They are moderately enjoyable in their own right, but do not expect a faithful rendition of the books, which are among Enid Blyton's best, and maintain a high standard throughout the eight stories.

I loved these books as a kid, bought the dvds to relive the memories with my nephews who not unlike many kids these days, dont read so much. While I vaguely recognised the stories, these film adaptations are way off in term of dialogue, doesnt feel like Enid Blyton adventures at all. really. Im dissapointed, hope the kids enjoy them though, will watch with them when they come up to visit

I was very pleased with this as I wasn,t aware you could get this on dvd,as I was a fan of her books
and mainly into famous five and accidently came across this, the books certainly came alive !
