I feel, somewhat retrospectively, compelled to redress the balance a little, slightly piqued as I am at the single star so far awarded to this title. No, it's not Jewellrey from two years previously but then I can't believe it was ever intended to be. And, more to the point, what a disappoinment it would have been for Mica Levi to have joined the ranks of all those tiresome purveyors of repeatedly formulaic and predictable retreads of their own and other people's ideas. For me, Mica is a unique and fascinating talent who refuses to be tied to the constraints of either genre or audience expectation. She is frighteningly young and it is perhaps partly this which allows her to be fearless in how she approaches her art and refreshingly explorative in her attitude new musical forms.
One can't help but think that had Mica followed the tried and tested path advocated by the previous reviewer then we would never have experienced the genius that is her Under the Skin score. And I would defy anyone to give that a paltry one star.
