5.0 out of 5 stars My kind of poker book, 30 Mar 2011

This review is from: Winning Strategies for No-Limit Hold'em (Kindle Edition)
This is exactly my kind of poker book: theory-based and focuses on unique concepts instead of retreading material that is available elsewhere. From the introduction Christenson and Fox say:

"We hope to provide a minimum of information that overlaps with what the readers might have already encountered, while at the same time exploring a deeper consideration of some fundamental aspects of the game that can yield valuable strategic insights."

Specifically, the authors devote a whole section of the book to bet-sizing -- providing fundamental principles and covering each round in detail. When it comes to each round, the authors step backwards through the hand, starting with the river and ending with preflop. This unusual structure is actually beneficial for readers, as the least complicated situations generally come later on in the hand (since the play on early streets is conditional on what would come later).

Some other topics that I liked include the two methods of deception (playing many hands the same way versus playing the same hand different ways), exploitive play versus optimal play, and adjusting to different stack sizes.
