Many years ago I'd had 'History of the Bonzos' on vinyl, and looking for a CD replacement, I think this set beats the History hands down. Being the actual albums with their original running order, this puts each track in context much better than 'History', and enables the listener to follow the development of the band over the period of these albums. All the favorites are here, along with other tracks I'd not previously heard, and my kids are now being introduced to what is still some of the funniest and irreverent music ever made! Although 40-odd years old, these tracks are still as fresh and amusing as evr they were (OK, maybe some of the band members introduced in 'The Intro & The Outro' are no longer the household names that they were at the time, but......!). If you want to add the Bonzos to your CD library, this is the one for you!!

This is ALMOST a straight reissue of their earlier "Cornology" 3 CD set which covered all five of the band's albums (if you discount the recent offerings from the "re-formed" band), and a few bits and pieces to pad out the third disc.

However, the tracks have all been remastered, and the difference is quite clear. The new versions sound clearer and a little louder. In addition, the tracks on the third CD have been re-ordered, so that their final album comes first on the disc, followed by the extras, unlike "Cornology", where it was placed rather incongruously midway through the disc.

As you probably know, the music is just tremendous. This set contains many of the funniest, most ridiculous songs you are ever likely to hear, anywhere. "Jollity Farm", "Hunting Tigers Out In Indiah", "The Intro and the Outro", "Mr Slater's Parrot", "Mr Apollo", "Canyons Of Your Mind" - all are wildly different, yet I would defy anyone to sit straight-faced through any one of them. Listen once to the sheer genius of Viv Stanshall, Neil Innes, et al, and you'll be hooked. Note also the excellent musicianship - this wasn't just a bunch of fools mucking about; these guys could really play, and some of their own compositions are rather fine pieces of music in their own right.

It's a pity EMI couldn't have come to an arrangement with the BBC for some of the few Bonzos tracks not included here, but get this and "The Complete BBC Recordings", and you'll have all you need from the funniest band of all time.

The 72 track "A Dog's Life" (title chosen by Neil Innes) brings together five original studio albums and adds a few `extra treats'! The albums in question are included in their 2007 remastered form and are, chronologically, "Gorilla", "The Doughnut In Granny's Greenhouse", "Tadpoles", "Keynsham" and "Let's Make Up And Be Friendly".

CD3 adds an additional nine non-album tracks - six by the band, along with `Labio Dental Fricative' by Vivian Stanshall Sean Head Showband (featuring Eric Clapton), `Re-Cycled Vinyl Blues' by Neil Innes, and Roger Ruskin Spear & His Giant Orchestral Wardrobe with `Trouser Freak'.

The CDs are housed in a thick double plastic jewel case and come with a 12 page booklet. There are no sleeve notes, but it contains images of the original album covers, credits and several photographs.

This is another value for money addition to EMI's multi-album 3 / 4CD set range.

To explain, I love the Bonzos and their music. I actually saw Roger Ruskin Spears Giant Kinetic wardrobe live and spoke to the great man " Whats it like being on the road?" " Boring". Needless to say the show was great. So this box set, it is the same as the Cornology triple set except for a slight resequencing at the end. I disagree that Lets make up should have come before the bonus tracks, after all it was a belated, contract filler album.
So I listened to this set back to back A Dogs Life vs Cornology. They sound exactly the same. The volume may be a tiny bit louder on Dogs, but you get the same sound if you turn the volume up a tad on Cornology. So if you have Cornology or see it cheap, get it, failing that this will do. I see that a box set of their cds is due out minus the bonus tracks?!? Why? I also miss Suspicion off The Story of The Bonzos set. If you don't know what the Bonzos are all about...beginning with off the wall vauderville/ temperance seven stuff they rapidly graduated to rock, roll and every looney point in between. Highly recommended, Britains answer to Zappa without the crudity and guitar w*nkery

Great stuff - brings back memories of when "Gorilla" was one of THE albums to have in the school common room as well as their superb performances on "Do not adjust your set" on TV.
I've been doing some back to back comparisons with "Cornology" and apart from the running order difference on disc 3 I'm not really aware of any particular improvement in sound quality from "remastering", although others have mentioned it. The only thing I noticed was a slight volume difference.

The best complete collection of the Bonzo Dogs so far. The sound is GREAT, far better than Cornology, and a nice jewelcase package for the price. Absolutely recommended!

This excellent CD will keep me amused, involved and singing along for years to come, remembering the tunes and putting the words in the right place if at all possible.I shall look at the original LPs and covers in my cupboard and think of all the people and places they have been with me. A great collection.

Really very good music from the sixties which is largely forgotten.
Outstanding value for money, probably worth twice as much.

This is an absolute gem. All you could have ever heard and wanted from The Bonzo's. It has all their songs including my favourite Jollity Farm. If you have only ever heard Urban Spaceman then this is more like what the Bonzo's where about. It's great value as this is a complete set of their albums. This is a must have for all Bonzo fans.
