TO EACH HIS OWN has been neglected by film historians but it is an evocative and beautifully acted story of Jody "Josephine" Norris, who gives up her baby born out of wedlock and dedicates her life to making sure his life is perfect and that he never know his real mother. Olivia deHavilland won a well deserved Oscar for it -- it is in the vein of STELLA DALLAS but it is the superior mother love story. I defy anyone to watch this and not be moved by the beautiful ending.

The acting is remarkable, the script without a swearword
in it, I saw this film in the 1940s and it has`nt lost
any of its pull,I still shed tears even though I knew
the story.wish they still made films of this standard.

I had this movie on VHS for a long time, was hoping the DVD would be released and here it is on DVD at least.Olivia Dehavilland is a wonderful actress and very attractive. Her love interest in the movie is the handsome John Lund not as well known as Olivia, but played his part well. It's a a great love story and you may need a handkerchief in parts of the movie. Two things I didn't like about the DVD, was the movie was in black and white which I knew, but some darker parts of the movie were too dark even when I adjusted my TV dark/light setting. The contrast setting in the movie was a bit off. But most parts were ok. More important to me was the DVD has no subtitles for the hard of hearing and others who like subtitles on the screen and most DVD's have subtitles these days. One star off for no subtitles. But the movie is very good and definitely worth buying.

Turn down the lights, snuggle up with some good chocolates or toffees, and a bottle of wine, the true star Miss Olivia De Haviland will keep you gripped with this black and white classic.

I watched this over 20 years ago on tv, but now have the DVD, it's a timeless classic well-worth getting.

If you like Crawford, Davis and Turner, THIS is better than most of their films, and as good as Stanwycks.

A masterful performance by Olivia de Havilland and fine supporting performances, particularly by Mary Anderson as Jody's son's adopted mother and Robert Culver as Jody's friend Lord Deshem. A fine film that will have you in giggles and tears. Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed. Five star all around.

A fine restoration of an interesting tear-jerker in which the extraordinarily fine make-up of the leading lady is incredibly impressive. Although not possessed with the emotional punch of "Madame X" or "Penny Serenade" it still works well.

To Each His Own - I really enjoyed seeing this movie after not seeing it for many years ! It was nice to see Miss De Havilland in one of her early screen appearances. The digitally remastered copy was very good I had never seen or heard it that good, although some scenes were dark I imagine that was in the original print ! I would highly recommend it, granted that it can be slow in parts but it has a great love story from yesteryear !
