Why wouldn't you buy this.

Cod4 is by far the best release in the entire Cod series of games. The campaign mode and multiplayer are 'still' vastly superior to all recent efforts including World at War, Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great game spoilt by hackers
Its a great game - one of my favourites in fact and Ive played it to death.

However nowadays the multiplayer is awash with hacked lobbies. People outside the map, infinite rocket launchers, high jumping, spam appearing across the screen - you get the idea.

Why wouldn't you buy this.

Cod4 is by far the best release in the entire Cod series of games. The campaign mode and multiplayer are 'still' vastly superior to all recent efforts including World at War, Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops.

Play the campaign on Veteran for a proper challenge and you won't have any complaints about it being too short. There are difficulty spikes, which will make you want to break something. There's unforgiveable grenade spamming by the enemy, but it's still a joy to play. The pace and variety of the campaign is exceptional. It flows perfectly and doesn't descend into the ridiculous like MW2 i.e. you don't go from fighting in the dessert to back yards in America. It all feels more realistic (for a computer game).

The characters in the campaign are fantastic and you will become attached to them. Very rare these days. This is all married with excellent voice acting and a great sense of humour delivered by your SAS comrades.

Playing Cod4 to experience the legendary "All Ghillied Up" sniping level is worth the purchase price alone. It's been poorly copied and never bettered since. No spoilers here.

The multiplayer is a lesson in balance, which was completely missing from MW2. There are only 3 set kill streaks, 3 kills = UAV, 5 = mortar strike, 7 = attack helicopter. No nukes, no chopper gunner. It's perfect.

The weapons balance are excellent. Many of the same weapons featured in MW2 and were tweeked and completely ruined. Also, you get a had gun as your only secondary weapon, which again added much needed balance missing from MW2.

Nothing I can say will do this excellent game justice. Cod4 is still graphically stong. There is still a strong online community and this shows no signs of fading. Why, because it's that good.

Just buy it and enjoy.

Private matches are still OK and you find clean lobbies from time to time if your lucky. When its working as it should its a 5* game no doubt but because of all the hacking Im only going to give it 3.

Theres the single player campaign as well of course which is decent enough but its all about the multiplayer for me.

Now the Call of Duty Franchise has sold Millions of Copies and has more then 40 Million People playing it and it's enormous success comes from this game. Before this the first 3 CoD's were Single Player based games set in WW2. But this game was in the present day and has all of the up to date tech including Helicoptors, Jets , Modern Tanks, Nuclear Weapons, Computers everything. Also it had multiplayer and excellent multiplayer with Perks, Killstreaks, Attachments and all what we can expect of CoD. It also started the Epic Story of the Modern Warfare Games. 5.0 out of 5 stars CoD 4 Review, 26 July 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Classics (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
So I'm sure you already know enough about this to have made a decision. Basically if you like FPS', particularly Infinity Ward's prior entries you'll love this. A reimagining of the franchise set in a modern day crisis not too dissimilar to that which we are living through now provides the back drop for a more story driven CoD.

The series staple of multiple participants remains, switching mainly between American marines in the Middle East and the British SAS in Eastern Europe and Russia. For the most part you are the surprisingly un-heroically named Soap MacTavish in the SAS. The plot revolves around a military coup in the Middle East and civil war in Russia with the constant threat of Nuclear War. The distinct characters in the campaigns become a great comfort to you, well developed and likeable they show personality whilst maintaining the military attitude, a balance that can be hard to hit. The story develops at a good pace in a variety of in game set pieces that feel well spread and just realistic enough not to be convoluted.

As always the controls are strong, the variety of weapons is appropriately varied and suited to whichever scenario they need to be applied to, and they will be applied to a variety of scenarios. One minute you're calling in airstrikes on a hostile controlled building, the next your sneaking through the bushes silently taking out tango's when they're alone with their backs turned before taking a shot from two miles away, holding out for evac and then your shooting choppers down with the gun on another downed helicopter. The level design remains easy to manoeuvre whilst not being constrictive and overly linear and explores a variety of settings from nuclear facilities to Chernobyl, post historical incident.

There's really not much more to say about the game other than it is suitably challenging and engaging with a strong story arc for the game type and a good sense of flow. Oh and the end, yeah that'll have you on the edge of your seat.

The Final Word: Great reimagining, surprisingly well realised story and characters and possibly the strongest entry in the series in all areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, 4 Jan. 2014
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Classics (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
I received the latest call of duty game, Ghosts, for Christmas. This is the 10th installment of this excellent game and made me think back to previous games in the series. Here I review the first Modern Warfare installment ...

Reviewing from the campaign point of view (I'm not keen on playing online with spotty oiks incessantly pressing the jump button), this is definitely the best COD. Whilst the first 3 games were superb, the series really took off with Modern Warfare. The storyline, which switched between a team of SAS troopers and US Marines before a joint op at the end, seemed realistic and presented in a manner which cleverly made you think, "so that's what the SAS get up to on a day to day basis".

I've played through this countless times and always enjoy it.

Superb game play. Superb story.
