Far from being just another biography of a Hollywood icon this is a surprisingly edifying piece of work to read as well as being entertaining.
The book is a well researched, masterfully written and balanced account of a complex man who was much more than just a film star. An actor whose minimalistic and authentic approach to playing characters on screen was off-set by real life indulgences, often in relatively excessive measures, whether it was cars, bikes, or women.
I read another biography of Steve on a long haul flight to Australia years ago that was good but this was much better. I found the final chapters about his life especially moving and it gave very good insight into the dark-side of fame and celebrity. People who desire fame above all else should take note.

really in depth view of the life of the king of cool, every Mcqueen fan should read this book as it tells you so much about the man. Not all good i must say but then thats what made him stand out from the rest. Goes right from his childhood to when he died and how he was always looking to be the star of every film he appeared in and how he would stop at nothing to get to where he wanted to be.

A wonderful book that looks at both the man and the legend. The author is no sycophant and is not afraid to reveal the less savoury side of Mqueens character. A very insightful read that reinforces the knowledge that the way we bring up our kids makes such a huge difference to their persona. In this case is upbringing made him who he was. A tough and selfish SOB !.
