1.0 out of 5 stars Nowt to do with t'Street
A few years the cast of Coronation Street recorded an album. Mavis and Derek sang "I Remember It Well" from "Gigi", Mike and Alma duetted on "Something Stupid" and although there were some guest stars it was actually a Street album.

A few years the cast of Coronation Street recorded an album. Mavis and Derek sang "I Remember It Well" from "Gigi", Mike and Alma duetted on "Something Stupid" and although there were some guest stars it was actually a Street album.

This is just a collection of songs since 1960, none of which (apart from the theme tune) has anything real relevance to Coronation Street. Would it not be better if Granada wanted to celebrate the show's 50th birthday to release another album of the stars of the Street singing. They don't even have to be current cast members - Tracy Shaw (Maxine Peacock) released a couple of singles, Violet Carson (Ena Sharples) tickled the ivories and, of course, Sir Norman Wisdom even appeared on the Weatherfield cobbles.

Of the current cast, Sue Nicholls (Audrey) charted with "Where Will You Be?", Barbara Knox has sung professionally and so has Betty Driver - would it not be a more fitting tribute to the Street to have a real (or reel) Weatherfield album, not just a collection of songs which however good they may be have nowt to do with the Street...

The first album can be found here: Coronation Street Album Various

3.0 out of 5 stars Just another marketing ploy, 5 Aug 2012
This review is from: Coronation Street - Magical Memories (Audio CD)
As another review here points out Coronation Street has had many actors and actresses who actually made records as well as creating its own Top 20 hit in Chris Sandford's Not too little not too much.We stopped watching it after the pub burnt down and for all I know its probably now full of 4 letter words.
The Golden Age was the 60s and 70s after both Peter Noone and Davy Jones had appeared so its rather pointless to issue CDs like this
In the recent TV film about the beginnings of what was then called Floradora Street or something before they came up with the name its now known under worldwide some character on the Board of Granada says "it will never take off because Northern accents are the accents of comedy"
Quite.
Consider then that a few years later Northern accents would be the rage of America after the British Invasion

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Coronation Street - Magical Memories (Audio CD)
The music are all very old, nothing a teenager would recognise as 'Corrie Music', even the main tune is old

It came scuffed and looked like a second hand product. Will not buy from this seller again.

Will rate 'no star' but Amazon will not allow me to...

1.0 out of 5 stars Why Corrie?, 3 Jan 2011
This review is from: Coronation Street - Magical Memories (Audio CD)
Apart from the theme tune and pictures on the covers, the music CDs have nothing to do with Corrie at all - just a lot of old songs. The DVD 'extras' are old Corrie episodes but this is not what I was expecting from this cd (which was a present) and my reaction was confusion, followed by disappointment.
If it's 60s songs you want, there are a lot of other CDs that are better and probably cheaper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth It For The Otherwise Unavailable DVD Episodes, 1 Jan 2014
This review is from: Coronation Street - Magical Memories (Audio CD)
As previous reviewers have pointed out. This is a collection of 60s hits that has absolutely nothing to do with Coronation Street as such, any series that was about in the 60s could of had their name attached to the release as easily as corrie, It's just a collection of 60s hits that otherwise may not have sold as many copies if the Street name was not attached. However, there is an up side to this purchase. A third disc, A DVD containing 2 classic Christmas Coronation Street episodes from 1969 and 1975. These are not available on the other C.S. Box sets so they are only available to view in this package, making it a must for Corrie fans wanting to add these episodes to their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for the Rovers!, 30 Nov 2010
This review is from: Coronation Street - Magical Memories (Audio CD)
I ordered this for my Mum who is a massive Corrie fan. It's 2Cds from 60s and 70s. Singers like Cilla, Cliff, and Gerry & The Pacemakers. Well, she'll like them (!)
There's also a DVD with 2 episodes. It's packaged nicely, and will make a good Christmas present.
Well worth the money.
