A classic film with a great short documentary for added measure. I would recommend this purchase to anyone who is already aware of how great a film this is or not.

Great story played beautifully by all (including a very young Angela Landsbury). May seem a bit slow compared with the films we have now, but if you are a fan of the black and whites don't miss this one - loved it!

Brilliantly made with much tension and superlative action. Black-and-white drama at its best. The cast is exemplary and the accompanying 'Reflections' (by Ingrid Bergan's daughter and Angela Lansbury) are interesting and informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite scariest film., 22 July 2013

Gaslight is a pschological trilller. It casts a unique spell of mystery and menace from the first frame to the last. Paula (Ingrid Bergman) marries Gregory Anton (Charles Boyer) not knowing that he is a menacing murderous scoundrel, obsessed in finding Paula's Aunt's jewels which are hidden in the house somewhere. Slowly but subtly he convinces Paula that she is going insane by causing her to doubt herself. Angela Lansbury in her film debut plays the part of the cheeky maid, for which she won her first Academy Award nomination. Adding to the success of this film was Joseph Cotton as a sympathetic Scotland Yard detective and Dame May Whitty as the nosey neighbour. Brilliantly directed by George Cukor.
This is the second version of this film, but in my opinion is the best version, as Charles Boyer is so menacing.
If I say any more I won't be doing you any favours. Buy it you won't be sorry.
