Kustarica seems to speak almost alone for an often misjudged and perceived part of eastern Europe. That he wins awards at Cannes is testament to their greatness and critical acclaim.

Time of...was the first I'd seen of his and it stayed with me for over ten years in my memory alone, from a rare TV showing. Within its heartfelt narrative, every human condition and emotion is in there and is so liberating in its unusualness. The amateur cast and traditional music, as well as the Romany language......It just seemed to be totally unavailable on DVD.

Yes - I find Korean DVDs seem to have a slight judder to the fluidity of, say, panning shots. A different film from Korea suffered the same and I intended to return it but after some emailing, in the end I generally felt that nothing in life is ever perfect and I'd have to put with it.

Yes - indeed, the subtitles are often laughable and occasionally bad. Yes, off-putting once or twice. Though even original 'official' prints can be bad in this respect, too. These are the ONLY reasons why I have docked one star.

However, I think the point is that folk buying such items aren't doing so because they're dabbling - they want that film because they love it and if you consider the reasonable price and the fact it seems to be the only way of (legally - I wouldn't know of any other!) obtaining a copy of one's own then it's case of better than nothing. And, as for DVDs generally, there are even worse 'official' releases out there, I assure you!

I waited years to get hold of a DVD of this film and this print is a great disappointment. Be warned, this is a Far East import and the subtitles are very poor - badly timed, sometimes illogical, often ungrammatical and invariably poorly spelt. Also, I suspect, there is at times inadequate or inaccurate translation of the original dialogue.

On top of that the print is not fine quality. Viewable yes, but you get the feeling that this is several generations of reprint down the line.

The film itself is of course fascinating and there are some magical moments, but because of the poor subtitles and print quality I came away with the feeling that I'd only half seen it. Annoying.

This is a great film by Kusturica. The story is about a gypsy boy is tricked by another man, Ahmed, into engaging in the world of crime by using the boy's magical powers. The story is captivating from start to finish. The music is beautiful and the acting is excellent. As one of the previous reviewers noted earlier, the only hiccup of the DVD release is the subtitles. There are minor spelling mistakes and at times the subtitles lines do not synchronize with the actors' lines. However, do not let this put you down from watching the film so that you do not miss out on one of Emir Kusturica's masterpieces.

Brilliant film, appears real. Great to see work from around the world. Good it is in Romany. Gives an insight to the lives of some people.
