I love Mark Lamarr's Christmas Day radio shows - a welcome break from all the usual cheesey Christmas songs. This album collects some vintage tunes, mostly from the 1950s. To be honest, it's not the greatest selection and because it's all in the R&B genre it does get a little wearing if you listen to it all in one go. There are some great tracks on it, but his radio show plays a much wider selection of genres, which makes it more entertaining.
Be aware that this is the same album that was released in 2007 with a different sleeve, so don't get excited if you thought it was something new to add to your Christmas compendium. Come on Mark, how about a new CD of all those great Surf, Soul and Reggae Xmas songs you have in your collection? Now that would be worth getting excited about!

Hardly matter how many times this has been out under another name it might be first time round for less rich collectors
As its now about the time these CDs are in HMV and selling to general collectors who may not also collect Christmas CDs or folk music.
This CD is likely to be available for a few years being on the Fantastic Voyage label

I've collected quite a few alternative Christmas albums over the years in order to tune out the schmaltz and rubbish that assaults my eardrums in the shops and on the telly.

The write-up for this album sounded interesting and I wasn't put off by the fact that a couple of the tracks were on the Viper collections I already own. In fact, this made the album sound more promising.

Unfortunately these tracks are missing a certain sparkle and suffer from a lack of humour, sass and novelty. Overall the collection felt a bit lifeless and downbeat. There are better collections out there, in particular I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Claus and Papa Ain't No Santa Claus.

Now with a snazzy green cover.

Some well known and many less well known artists and songs make this a classic for Christmas.
