Harry Christophers and The Sixteen have just (April 2012) released their second disc in their aim to record the whole of Monteverdi's 'Selva Morale'. I have already ordered this before reading any reviews as their first disc of the series (under review here) is absolutely fantastic. Monteverdi was surely the greatest composer of the early Baroque and although the present disc perhaps lacks the instrumental colour and drama of his 'Vespers' of 1610, these are much later works in which he brings a lifetime of experience to bear on their composition. So, great music, expertly performed, as one has come to expect from Harry and his 16.
