Concise (obviously), easily-worded and an excellent resource for a dissertation or if you're just beginning to take a look at Eliot. Though it's not exactly riveting material for non-academic reading, Davis has summarised much of the poem very well, and carves out a basic understanding for any newcomer to The Waste Land (such as myself.) And it's cheap as chips, too.

I found this quite helpful and can understand that it would be useful to children doing GCE.
From a more adult point of view not so helpful, but interesting and would be useful for someone coming to TSE for the first time.

It told me things I knew about descriptions of London and the post war period ... a little that was illuminating about the classical references ...but very little analysis of the meaning of the poem which was what I had hoped to read.

amazing how little 999 words really are, especially in the face of Eliot's seminal modernist poem. But this book does what it says on the packet - no more, no less.

This is clear and easily understood summary of a complex mind. The further reading provided will enable interested readers to dig down dipper into the poem.

I wanted a serious consideration of an important work of art; in the opinion of many a crucial text of the modern world ( the early twentieth century is still the modern world) This was trivial crap.
