I paid approximately £30 for this camera last year, and felt it was time to review it. Bear in mind it was used when I bought it. I wanted a camera that I could take pictures for coursework, internet forums, youtube vids and general use. I did not want to worry about loosing or breaking it
Overall it is a farily good camera.
Pros:
-Battery life is good
-Videos are clear with good sound
-The display is quite big, and of fairly good quality
-The 4x zoom means you can get "closer to your picture
-The metal casing makes it fairly tough
-quite a lot of features, like face detection and smart auto.
-expandable up to 8gb (card cost me £8)
-fairly fast, and the action shot, although it puts the quality down a bit, takes loads of pics a second, which is great for moving footage (i got some pics of people tombstoning)
cons:
-The macro mode is fairly rubbish (comparing to my parents £250 camera). The pics are not very focused at less than 30cm or so, even with super macro, so you often need to take half a dozen pictures to get a good one, or crop.
-you need a flash with slightly dark pictures. Not a massive problem.
-the zoom is noisy when videoing, and the format does not work with microsoft movie maker
-The lens does not feel/sound very good
-a few weeks ago, it would cut out when you zoom about 80%. works ok now.
-it sometimes cuts out when changing mode, e.g. putting on the flash.

The bottom line
I would reccomend this to anyone who wants a cheap camera

Great camera light point and press and easy to use features. Very good x4 zoom close up.
No red eye what so ever! Video is very good; the sound surprisingly good; even when recording
live bands or pub gigs, which is a very good bench mark.
The sharpness of picture is excellent. Camera shake feature is also excellent and smart auto feature
for the point and shoot brigade; for those who want simplicity.
Photo trim feature is superb quality 12mp more than enough. Battery charge with akward short cable
means that a high plug socket or adapter is required but hey the camera is so sexy and sleek
you work around that the plus side is the battery charges quickly.
The samsung ST61 does everything you could want it has to equal to the best in its range ?!

Bought this camera as a simple compact for my wife to carry around..no thats not sexist she wanted it.
She loves it, takes cracking pictures under all lighting conditions, simple to use, good battery life, pictures have great colour and depth.
We are both well pleased and here is plenty to explore beyong the point and shoot option.
