This review is for the GIORGIO MORODER version of Metropolis, but will no doubt appear elsewhere.

In case you're not aware, Amazon have a practice of placing reviews for any one video release of a film on the page for every other release of that film, regardless of how different they may be, rendering many reviews nonsensical. However they've excelled themselves here by doing the same with the product description.
The description for the recent, restored version of Metropolis appears on the product page for the 1984 Giorgio Moroder version, which is more a product of the 1980s than it is of Fritz Lang. It uses the shorter, garbled version of the film, all that was available at the time, with added colour effects throughout, and a score of 80s rock music. The film basically becomes a long music video. Nothing wrong with that as such, and it's an interesting curiosity at the very least, but it's a far cry from the faithfully restored version described on this page. Just so you know if you're thinking of buying it.
