Nice product, with minor reservations

We bought this item to replace the old plastic Breville jug kettle, which was beginning to deteriorate. The appearance is attractive and it pours well, without drips (the old jug kettle wasn't good in this respect). I come from the time when one popped this sort of kettle on the gas stove to heat the water, so I'm well aware of the hazards of lifting the lid to refill after boiling. Steam is jolly hot, so it is best to fill, at least initially after boiling, through the spout. The handle is comfortable and the lid easy to remove with arthritic fingers. The noise, which others have complained of, is no worse than other kettles we've had and the boiling is fast. The only beef I'd have when comparing this design with a jug kettle, is to do with quantities. The kettle holds plenty to cope with the family turning up for tea, but the other end of the scale is less easy to gauge. The level indicator starts at 1 litre, so it isn't possible to boil a couple of mugs-worth for just we two, though we've had the kettle long enough to guess smaller amounts pretty accurately. As for odour and taste problems, we boiled the kettle several times and discarded the water when new, and always use fresh water every boil. All in all a nice looking kettle that functions well - just a shame it can't be made in England or at least in the UK. Is everything made in China these days?!!.
