5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant un-cut region 2 release., 1 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Walt Disney Treasures - Pluto (2 Dvd) (DVD)
What can I say? This release is excellent for all none-picky region 2'ers.
This Italian version plays 100% in English language for any English buyers.
The set kicks off as per usual as the other walt disney treasure sets, with the Intro from Leonard Maltin and we move on from there.

As far as I can see this set is 100% un-cut. It has the special section "The Vault" for your non-pc shorts etc sporting 2 shorts.

The shorts are brilliantly animated with a mixture of tones, with War Time series being blended in.
I also never noticed how much Pluto cried in so many different shorts, rather sad for such a lovable hound!

This set documents the first half of Pluto's long career. He really does show his showmanship. It may get tedious watching so many Pluto's in one go, as the stories of each short got "samey" after a while, with Pluto hating an animal, person or whatever and then later making friends. I personaly found each short charming and I a true disney enthusiast, I relish having this portion of The treasures.

CONTENTS are as following:

Disc one -
1930 The Chain Gang

1935 On Ice

1937 Pluto's Quin-puplets

1939 Beach Picnic

1940 Bone Trouble

1941 Pluto's Playmate
Canine Caddy
Lend a Paw

1942 Pluto, Junior
The Army Mascot
The Sleepwalker
T-Bone For Two
Pluto At the Zoo

Bonus Features The Life and Times of Pluto: An interesting but brief analysis of Pluto as a character. Maltin discusses the dog with current animator Andreas Deja, long-time animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, and animation historian John Canemaker.
Pluto 101: Maltin again meets with Deja, who speaks about the value of studying classic cartoon shorts to aid in his ability to animate successfully. He then takes Leonard to the drawing board, where he shows how to bring Pluto to life from just one circle, the way he did in a sequence for the 1990 featurette The Prince and the Pauper.

Disc two -
1943 Pluto and the Armadillo
Private Pluto

1944 Springtime For Pluto
First Aiders

1945 Dog Watch
Canine Casanova
The Legend of Coyote Rock
Canine Patrol

1946 Pluto's Kid Brother
In Dutch
Squatter's Rights
The Purloined Pup

1947 Pluto's Housewarming

From the Vault Pantry Pirate (1940)
A Gentleman's Gentleman (1941)

Bonus Features Pluto's Picture Book: This is the second half of the Disneyland episode, A Story of Dogs, which was aired as part of a promotion for Lady and the Tramp (the making of which the first half of this episode covers). The second half of this episode talks about Disney's first canine star, using a picture book, from which Pluto leaps and into which Pluto looks while Walt narrates and we get a look at some of the highlights of Pluto's career.
Pluto's Pal Fergy: This is a mini-biography about "the man behind the mutt": Norman Ferguson, who helped bring the dog to life. This talks about Ferguson not only creating Pluto, but also some of the other things at Disney he did.
Galleries Pluto On Paper: Several Pluto comic strips are shown, as are Pluto book and magazine covers. The comics are designed masterfully so one can actually read along frame by frame.
Pluto's Posters: Posters for many of the cartoons presented on this set are depicted.
Background Paintings: The backdrops for a small handful of the cartoons presented are shown.
Animation Drawings: A host of drawings, storyboard and otherwise, for the same small handful of cartoons as in the "Background Paintings" section

For the lowest price being a tenner, you cant beat that.
Anyway, I hope this review helped and enjoy the first portion of Pluto.

Ciao and thanks for reading.

This is only my second ever 5 star rating..Brilliant quality, colour and sound... I asked the kids what they thought but they were in another world watching Pluto, Donald, Mickey (yes they're all there) plus many more.I remember many of the Cartoons from way back. They still have that special magic that CGI will never have..There is a Bonus feature called Pluto 101 in which Andreas Deja, one of the current Animators, shows how he brings Pluto to life starting with just a circle on a piece of paper.Absolutely fascinating...R/T is about 3 hours and there are 5 languages to choose from ....English/Italian/German/French/Spanish plus many more subtitles...If you've got this in your collection and any kids come visiting, especially on a rainy day, you'll be very popular...For me it's the best value ever....

5.0 out of 5 stars dog's eye view, 28 Dec 2012

Pluto was clearly drawn by dog lovers.
the attention to detail both in the movement and the
character of a dog's curiosity is unequaled in any bigger
animation release. each eight minute short is a delight
and a happy moment in a modern world full of violence for
it's own sake. it was a dog's eye view of wonderment at all
it's surroundings.
