5.0 out of 5 stars Miserable? No, sensationally good!!
"In the rain, the pavement shines like silver . . ." Happy Silver Anniversary, Les Mis, bounding back more colour, incisive, and moving than ever. I attended both the historic O2 live concert and in the Barbican to see the too-short-lived 25th Anniversary Touring Production. [So perhaps I may commend the work of 3 people in the Barbican - John Owen Jones (Jean...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad baby Marius!
Bought this for a Mother's Day gift.Have to say disappointed overall.
The direction seemed to be concerned about parking meters as every song was bashed out at a fast pace.Alfie Boe was very good and a few others were up to scratch, but why oh way was Nick Jonas given the part of Marius???? He had all the emotional repatoire of a burger machine and seemed to be...

I have to agree with other reviews, that this version has a large number of weak cast members which results in a totally inferior version to the best ever (in my opinion), the 10th Anniversary concert from the Albert Hall. I can't think of a single leading role in this version (Javert, Valjean, Fantine, Thenardier, Marius, etc) that comes anywhere near the 10th Anniversary version (Javert is the nearest, but still not as good as Colm Wilkinson). The singing, actors, acting and orchestrations are not up to the standard of the 10th Anniversary concert. Especially weak in this version are the Javert and Marius roles. As a long time Miz fan, I just wish they would release a blu ray version of that 10th Anniversary concert instead of trying to recreate new versions that are not up to standard (the film version was dire).

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic - cannot recommend enough!, 26 Dec. 2010
Had this DVD for christmas, and its abolutely fantastic. The actors are all fabulous, the solo performances are beautifully sung, and the whole scenery and choir etc were just fabulous! People who are slating Nick Jonas really need to consider why hes there. Hes there to bring a new, fresh audience in so that the musical can carry on for another 25 years! As for his performances, i actually rather enjoyed, and they are no where near as bad as people are making out! Everyones a critic these days eh! Also, the fact that hes only 18 means that a) his voice wont be as strong as the people who are in their late 30s, and b) probably is quite nervous among all these very well known musical stars. Just lay off the kid he did a good job.
Anyway, buy this dvd, you wont be disappointed!
