5.0 out of 5 stars MORE MERRYMENT FROM THE MASTER., 10 Feb 2004

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Touchstone (Audio CD)
Chick Corea has made so many good recordings, and the Touchstone is one of his better one's.
We have here a fusion of Jazz, Classic, Flamengo, Latin and Rock, and for me at least it is great to hear the old Return To Forever play together on one song (Compadres) it's just as great as the songs and the playing on albums like Romantic Warrior and No Mystery. Another great song is The Yellow Nimbus which features Paco DeLucia and if you want to hear an excellent solo piano version of that song you should check out the video Piano Legends which Corea hosts and is about great jazz pianists.
In short, Great Playing, Great Compositions, GREAT FUN. Can we have some More Please Corea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Chick Corea, 29 Jun 2011
This review is from: Touchstone (Audio CD)
For those listeners who are still finding their way around the Chick Corea Catalogue it can be quite daunting. Much like a reviewer of a Herbie Hancock concert in Edinburgh a couple of years ago who complained that he was not sure which Herbioe Hancock was going to play that night; his style ranges so much) Even within particular group setting Corea's music can be dramatically different, take Return to Forever there is the first Airto, Flora Purim, Joe Farrell, Stanley Clarke version which is dramatically different from the Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Bill Connors/Al Di Meola version and finally the lesser known version with Gayle Moran Stanley Clarke, Joe Farrell, Gerry Brown and a brass section which is different again.

Touchstone has Al Vizzutti (trumpetp -6) Lee Konitz (alto sax -3) Steve Kujala (tenor sax, flute -6) Carol Shive (violin -3) Chick Corea (piano, electric piano, synthisiser, gong, cymbal) Al Di Meola (guitar -4) Paco De Lucia (guitar, handclapper) Greg Gottlieb (cello) Carlos Benavent (bass) Bob Magnusson (bass -3) Stanley Clarke (bass -4) Lenny White (drums -4) Don Alias (d, coga, bongo) Alex Acuna (drums, cajon, snaredrum, cymbal) Laudir De Oliviera (ganza, caxixi, woodblocks) Gayle Moran (voice -1)

This is an album where musicians have been drafted in to meet the needs of the music and reflects Chick Corea's compositional prowess

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 23 May 2009
This review is from: Touchstone (Audio CD)
this album is to be treasured as something really special.every track is a delight, sometimes subtle, delicate touches as in the yellow nimbus,at others, superbly intricate as in dance of chance, overall a masterpiece of controlled and excellently crafted musicianship, buy it and experience what little magic is left to us in this turgid world of so called music

I have lots of Chick Corea. I have never found his music boring, but interesting in different ways. Long may he continue to create albums.
