This is a great game for those who like to hook up with a few friends on PSN and play a shooter that requires a little planning and a degree of team-work. Terrorist Hunt is where the fun is to be had. I cannot comment on the single-player campaign or the competitive multiplayer. But Terrorist Hunt has consumed hundreds of hours of my game time.
There are varying difficulties and enemy density (numbers) to progress through. And a really good selection of maps to choose from - all of which are enjoyable once you get a gameplan on the go. The cover system and the tagging option (highlight an enemy for all players to see) are valuable tools. But occasionally it is of more benefit to ignore a cover spot and cut an angle while aiming in first person to get a cleaner shot off without compromising yourself if the enemy decide to move in quickly. With smoke grenades, flash bangs, heat vision and silencers there are a number of ways to tackle any given situation.
There are a a lot of weapons to choose from (considering you can only carry any two and a pistol) - submachine guns to assault rifles, light machine guns to sniper rifles and pistols to shotguns. Many weapons have a unique feel to them and you will find a favorite among them. There is also a good choice of armor customisation in regard to protection verses mobility, and a library of camouflage to choose from once you unlock them (via improving rank). Certain maps suit a lot of protection with close-quater weapons at the ready (a shotgun for example) while others benefit from quicker mobility to dash from cover to cover with a medium to long range weapon.
It's not a perfect game. It hasn't aged very well visually. Nor does the AI carry over to todays standards. But it will provide a challenge for a respectable period of time. And thereafter you will begin setting goals to achieve with friends in how to go about completing certains areas or even entire maps.
A good headset and a few friends are a must to really get the most out of Terrorist Hunt. It is fantastic with two players and a revelation with three or four if you can work together as a team.
One of my favorite PS3 games. And probably my absolute favorite for co-op play.
