Coming at the end of 1960, "Bells are Ringing" was perhaps the last true MGM musical in the inimitable Vincent Minnelli style, before the regular batch of Elvis MGMs took over. Judy Holliday had made this vehicle her own on broadway, thank goodness she also did the film.

Dean Martin gives able support in his laid-back way, and Frank Gorshin is a standout as a beatnik, encouraged by Judy to conform. A dentist who wants to be a songwriter, a record company covering for illegal betting, and a leading lady in love with a voice - Mr Martin's. Great songs, including "Just in Time" etc. and the excellent "Drop that Name", a film buff's song if ever there was one. The DVD contains an interesting documentary on the film, plus original trailer. The picture quality is superb.
