5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpectedly poignant mini album from James
James fans have been pretty lucky this year, plenty of dates across the UK, Europe, Festivals and an upcoming tour of North America and Mexico and of course two mini-albums the 2nd of which is what is being reviewed.

The first album "The Night Before" took over from where Hey Ma - the first reunion album left off. It was a very enjoyable mainly uptempo record...

2.0 out of 5 stars Probably about a 4/10....
First, let me start by saying I'm surprised to see so many 5/5 ratings for this album. I personally thought it was the most boring album I've listened to this year. After giving it several listening's too on holiday, i found myself time after time wishing i hadn't bothered and couldn't wait to for it to finish.

Its not the worst album I've ever heard, but from...

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishingly good, 29 Oct 2010
This review is from: The Morning After (Audio CD)
James have produced some great stuff over their long, off-and-on, career - and some mediocre stuff too. But quite how, post-reformation, they can come up with new material this good defies logic and expectations. Their recent releases have followed an upward trajectory, and with Dust Motes they have created something so haunting and affecting that it would readily slot ito a 'Top 5 James Songs of All Time'. Were ever such a list to be compiled. Throughout, the album has a hypnotic quality and a sinister edge uncommon amongst their previous work: it's spellbinding stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, 27 Oct 2010
This review is from: The Morning After (Audio CD)
After the disappointment of their previous release, The Night Before, I was pleasantly surprised with this offering. It's been a long time since the joys of Seven, Laid & Whiplash and I did not expect anything on that par. James, though, have matured over the years and we get a softer, more reflective tone to their music these days. Stand out tracks are Dust Motes, Tell Her I Said So and Lookaway. I'm off to see them at Brixton Academy in December and I'd been happy to hear them play any of these tracks in amongst their classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an album, 21 Oct 2010
This review is from: The Morning After (Audio CD)
I first bought this album after hearing a free demo of some tracks on James' Facebook page. I liked 'Lookaway' so much that I bought the album. Since then the album has grown and grown on me so much with every play that I think every track is great. 'Got the shakes' is I believe about an alchoholic who wants to beat the booze and stop beating his wife. 'Tell her I said so' is (I think) about Tim Booths mother, and life in an old peoples home. In fact all of James' lyrics are so meaningful. 'Rabbit Hole' and 'Lookaway'... wonderful. Kaleidoscope, you think about a man who suspects his wife is having an affair... until the tragic twist right at the end, which I won't spoil for you........ just buy it.

James lasts.............................................................

4.0 out of 5 stars lighter but still quality, 1 Oct 2010
This review is from: The Morning After (Audio CD)
a quieter more laid back cd than the night before but still a quality piece.probably needs a few listens more than hey ma or the night before but if you were to mix TMA and TNB you would have a classic James album.

5.0 out of 5 stars JAMES, THE BEST BAND, 1 Oct 2010
This review is from: The Morning After (Audio CD)
Os JAMES,pra mim, é a melhor banda britânica dos anos 90 pra cá, a cada vez se superam. Gostaria muito que seus discos fosse lançados no Brasil e que fizessem shows por aqui. JAMES, vocês estão melhores do que nunca! Congratulations!

James are on a high at the moment with another mini album that swoops and sors with aching beauty.
James have long since suffered the slings and arrows of adversity that to stray from the path too far would be folly, hit the mark of quality remarkably quickly.
The eight songs(plus the scret pc on;y song) are more sombre than we have come to expect from the best band that Manchester has EVER produced EXCELLENT

5.0 out of 5 stars James The Morning After a cure for any hangover!!!, 11 Sep 2010
This review is from: The Morning After (Audio CD)
As the title suggests this is a great listen after over indulging the night before.
For anyone who has ever liked any James song should buy this album and its companion the night before.
Favourite tracks include Kaleidoscope,Make for this City and Rabbit Hole. All of this and then there is still Lookaway. Can`t stop playing it.
Its a pity the album won`t get a chart position it truly deserves I thought The Night Before was good but this is even better.

A long time James fan. It was great to see them reform, but to be honest, I was disappointed with most of the last two albums, and found myself returning to Pleased to meet you, Seven and Gold Mother. I therefore didn't have high expectations of their second mini-album this year. However, listening to this brings a smile to the face, despite the themes. The whole album sounds so right and well integrated, that you sense the group has finally refound their groove, and are truly back on form. Excellent.

I really wasn't sure what i was expecting frm this mini album...While i enjoyed Hey Ma i didn't think it was their strongest work but was very impressed with the previous album The Night Before...
I needed have worried i think that this record is perhaps one of the strongest things James have ever put to record...
A few of the songs on here are very touching and moving.."Got The Shales" and "Kaleidoscope" being given special mention as Tim Booth's lyrics are simple breathtaking......
I really can't wait to see where the band goes next as they really are one of the most underaprechaited British Groups still going strong today....
