You have got to love this band, they do what they have always done: Exactly whatever they feel like doing. If they really wanted to they could put out another "Under The Funeral Moon", go on tour and make a whole bunch of money. But they don't want to so they don't. They once proclaimed that they were the "Fist in the face of god", I think that should be edited now to the "Fist in the face of modern metal". Metal has been in decline since the mid 90s aesthetically. Where did the metal go from heavy metal, it sounds more like heavy plastic now, with this ultra polished and glossy production that has crept into the genre and ruined a lot of what was great about it. Darkthrone remember what metal is suppose to sound like and have been tireless champions of the cause for a long time now. "Circle the Wagons" as the title would suggest is another call to arms in the battle against modern metal and the modern metal fan. This is another great album by Darkthrone.

By far their best album in the 'new' style. A good mix of songs on this one, taking the best bits from the previous albums in the punk/black metal style that they seem to be favouring these days. I have to say that even as a hardcore Darkthrone fan this change took me a while to get used to, but if they keep improving the new style things are looking good. Definatley worth buying if you like this genre, also would recommend this if you are a fan of bands like, Carnivour (pete steele's first band).
