Good if you need MS Office, if not, there are other, better, alternatives
on 24 June 2015
I'm going to assume that you, dear reader, have already decided you need to purchase Microsoft Office. If you fall into that category, then this is a perfectly satisfactory product. It's priced in line with other Microsoft Office offerings (in fact, slightly cheaper than the Windows version), and seems to have decent support for the usual applications. Microsoft also seem to have learned their lesson from their earlier Mac software failures and are delivering regular updates to this product as they would its Windows counterpart, so security updates etc. are coming through as one might expect.
If you haven't decided you need Microsoft Office, then stop now. You do not need to spend this sort of money, or tie yourself into these ludicrous licencing terms. There are plenty of perfectly good, and free, alternatives you might want to consider: Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Apple's own Pages/Numbers/Keynote suite, to name but a few. In fact, LibreOffice is now available through the App Store, so it'll be updated just like the rest of the software on your Mac.
