Doughnuts are clearly a good thing. Very few days can't be enhanced without that combination of dough, filling and topping in a handy parcel of yumminess.

Making them at home is often seen as a challenge - but this book makes it clear that it really is not beyond the scope of most home bakers.

Although it is an American book, cup measurements are all given with a metric equivalent - so this should not be a barrier to getting stuck in! The vast majority of the ingredients are readily available from all supermarkets - which can sometimes be a challenge with some US titles.

The content is broken down to a solid introduction to the techniques and necessary equipment, some good base recipes (including gluten-free and vegan options), toppings and then some very tasty recipes for a range of sweet treats. All of the 'complete' recipes give you various options for bases from which to create your finished dish. Not all of them require deep-frying - I think many would be surprised at the range of oven-baked doughnuts you can create.

There are recipes from all round the world to explore alongside the more traditional styles and I must admit to have already selected a few to try. The Apple Cider doughnuts look yummy as do the Creme Brulee ones.

You don't need to be Homer Simpson to enjoy doughnuts!

Doughnuts, so simple on the surface but when you start to think about it there is a world of variety available with different doughs, fillings, glazes and methods of preparation. A whole industry has grown up around the humble doughnut too, transforming many of them to quite luxury items with a price tag to match.
Yet with a little time and effort you can make your own at home and have fun decorating them exactly how you would like it... and nothing beats a really fresh doughnut too! Sounds interesting? If so then this book is for you.
The book starts by focussing on the basics, looking at the ingredients required and explains how a different type of ingredient, such as flour, can make a big difference dependent on what type of doughnut you will have. Then it is straight in to looking at 18 different doughs and nine different glazes that can be used to make the same doughnut. Oh.... did I mention that doughnuts don't need to be the same physical form either?
Still want more choice? You've got it! Just under 30 different flavourings are then presented and with all of these options you get a full recipe and mode of working to boot. Just imagine the combinations available - you will not easily get bored if you want to try them all out.
Don't let the book's relative thinness fool you. The book is concisely written yet it manages to impart a lot of key information, backed up by some nice mouthwatering photograph. If you thought that making doughnuts was difficult, this book might be just the thing to persuade you differently. It must be said, however, that it is good that the book does NOT show a typical calorific value per portion for each of these lovely delicacies. That would be too much.
Sometimes, ignorance is bliss!

Doughnuts: Simple and Delicious Recipes to Make at Home
What an amazing little book this is.
The recipes are simple to make and follow, it covers everything - the double chocolate ones are to die for. I love baking and have spent a fortune on Krispy kreme at the local foodstore but not anymore..
Next time I am going to go shopping I am buying a doughnut tin so I can try out the "cake" doughnuts - watch this space

There is a multitude of different recipes in this book. They are really good. I would give this book a fivestar rating if all the measures had been correctly and consistently printed in both metric and imperial!
I hope it comes out with correct measures in metric than i will buy it again! It's that good.

Interesting read with a good selection of recipes. Good to have some gluten free options as well as some healthier baked recipes rather than all deep fried.
