5.0 out of 5 stars Highly flammable....Handle with extreme caution
The awesome Jim Jones Revue are back to drive a dagger into the heart of all emotionless, soulless music. This is real, authentic, passionate, raw, exciting, rock n roll with one foot rooted in the past and paying homage to Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis at their wildest, but the other firmly in a different place where they kick ass alongside the likes of the MC5,...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK but.....
Agree with all the above but didn't Rocket from the Crypt do all this 15 years ago but better and with some of their own tunes.

Took a chance buying this as had only read the review, thankfully I wasn't disappointed. Top tunes from a top band. Managed to catch em live too. Wholeheartedly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kick ass rock 'n' roll, 16 April 2013

I just want to learn to play raucous piano like this. Full of energy and darkness, this is the seething underbelly of how it ought to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real rip roarer of an album., 24 Sept. 2010

This album grabs hold of you from the very first chord and doesn't let go until the final track halts unexpectedly.
It should help the JJR make it up onto the next level.
Not a dull moment on the album and not a track you'd want to skip.

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the savage same., 10 Sept. 2010
This review is from: Burning Your House Down (Audio CD)
Jim Jones Revue x 11 = half an hour of pure unrefined Rock n Roll.

And is the very best way to permanently damage your hearing.

Don't worry, they're not even similar to rocket from the crypt. (see a previous review)

Not a single second of filler on here. Not even the gaps between the tracks for crying out loud. They serve to let you catch your breath for the next track. This is a little more refined sound mix wise than the previous two albums. Polished? Probably, but then that does suit the songs on here though.

They are a little more subtle. Where as the first two albums had a smash a bottle in your face, kick you whilst you're down kinda menace to them, 'Burning Your House Down' has a far more subtle whisper threats of violence in your ear with a knife in your back menace. Having seen them live a few times the last couple of years you can really hear they have cut their teeth and gelled as a band a lot more. The songs are more varied than previously and there is clearly a confidence in the material here. As a result I reckon they aren't leaning so heavily on the straight rock 'n roll influences as much as they were in the past and are pushing themselves with the song writing.

The record has a natural refinement as a result. Which isn't a criticism in the slightest, it is a compliment. Especially as they still retain that snarling delivery. I love it. Brilliant. I saw a reviewer state that if Satan was to have his own resident rock 'n roll band, The Jim Jones Revue would be top of his list. Spot on.

Just a quick note to say that this is a really enjoyable modern R&R styled album. Loud, screaming, great fun and gutsy.

If you like the JJR and want something else to try ...well you could do worse than checking out the wonderful and much missed Rocket From The Crypt (RFTC) who were doing this sort of punk take on rockabilly some years ago. They are no more however (RIP) - so it is good to have the JJR carrying the flame on!

5.0 out of 5 stars What are you waiting for?, 5 Dec. 2010
This review is from: Burning Your House Down (Audio CD)
I can't rave about this album enough. Personally the distorted production is right up my street (I'm a Raw Power fan)and not a negative like it is for some reviewers. This recording feels like it really represents the band's live performance - which is something I'm desperate to experience but will have to wait for while the rest of the world gets a taste. Absolutely love it.
