Very original and varied songwriting
on 27 August 2010
"Shine" Dani's second major label release is produced by British blues godfather Mike Vernon and is a great sounding record using mainly session players like Pete Wingfield on keyboards, Roger Innis on bass and drummer Jamie Little. Dani wrote nine of the songs here, which veer from the modern blues rock of "Born to love him" to the classic soul of "How Do You Do It", and are really quite impressive. However, I didn't think that her version of the Stones' "Miss you" was different enough from the original. Dani's younger brother Will plays nice harp on most tracks and guitarists Stuart Dixon, Ben Poole and Laura Chavez join Dani on guitar. The CD gets off to a great start with the title track and my favourite track is probably "Where blue begins" with its blistering guitar solo. I did find Dani's voice a bit thin but she is young and I think that this is a very promising record which is a big improvement on her previous record "Heal my blues", with the songwriting in particular being very original and varied.
