This is a prescription diet. Whilst I prefer to support local business, the cost from my vet is quite a bit more and these days you need to economise. Our cats were rescue cats and were like little furry footballs when they came to us. Whilst not exactly slim they have toned down and are about to make the switch to a food that maintains weight rather than lose they couldn't have done it without this food or a lot more 'pain'.

I would recommend you consult your vet and get your cats on a managed program; as mentioned above this should be a prescription diet and only given to your animals if needed.

My cat has lost a lot of Weight on this diet , she loves the kibbles , I feed them in her slim ball or in her food maze so she's working out whist enjoying her food, would recommend to any fat cat needing to lose those pounds :)

I have two cats - one finicky and one impossibly greedy. Both benefit from a higher protein diet, and one of the few dry foods Mr Finicky consumes readily is Royal Canin 40 Light.

(You may question why these poor moggies are on dry food. It's because they share a house with vegetarians, some of whom simply can't tolerate the smell of wet pet food, and there are technical reasons why the cats must eat in the kitchen ... that would take some explaining. But they do get occasional tuna or pilchards. Little Miss Greedy enjoys a spot of skim milk, not to mention a Parmesan rind whenever she can thieve one, while Mr Finicky has fans next door who are more than happy to vary his diet. So don't feel too sorry for them.)

I've tried this new formulation, because it's slightly higher protein and I like the other minor tweaks to the ingredients. Mr Finicky is not so impressed; he may have preferred the easier-to-chomp shape of the 40 Light. But we'll continue with the rest of the bag and see if he adjusts.

Getting this from our Vets, would probably have cost nearly double the price.

We are the proud owners of 5 cats, 2 Siamese, 2 Orientals and 1 Balinese. Jophiel our oldest Siamese has a tendency to run to fat so we put him on this diet food. This is the trouble with neutered cats, they tend to get obese if you don't watch their diet. We have put all of them on this food because our Balinese is also getting a bit tubby.

It may seem expensive initially but as you measure it out each day for the indivdual cat it ends up being very economical in the long run. Also the litter box isn't quite so niffy as the cats produce small, compact faeces.

My cat rushes to the feeding station from wherever he is in the house to eat this. He appears to love it, and cleans the bowl in very short order. His brother also loves it, but is on a normal diet so doesn't get to eat this food - this is NOT OK and he does his best to sneak into the room to join in the feast. Our third cat is less discriminating but definitely prefers this to all other cat foods - just not as emphatically. So three out of three cats vote it excellent. The target cat is slowly losing weight but manages to steal food from elsewhere often enough that he's unlikely to feature on the cover of 'Feline Slimmer's World' any time soon.

We have one cat who is somewhat overweight and this was recommended for him. Having said that both he and his sister ( who is not overweight) both seem to like the food. I am not sure it has made much difference to the initial problem we have with our cat but at least they seem to like to eat it!

My cats are on a reducing diet after helping themselves to too much kitten food. I have tried several types of dry "light" cat food and they were all eaten too quickly (gulped down) due to the fact that the kibble was too small. This one is much larger pieces of kibble and they have something to crunch into - ideal for stopping them from inhaling their food! They are now slowly losing weight and enjoy crunching their way through their food.

One thing I wish is that it would fill them up a bit more so they wouldn't beg between meals though.

I have also tried using this kibble with feeding balls and other feeding devices designed to slow them down. We have had mixed results with this as the kibble is perhaps a little large for the ball. Still, it does seem to be helping them and they all clearly love the taste and enjoy feeding time.
