This review is from: The Venture Brothers - Season Two [Adult Swim] [DVD] (DVD)
If you haven't seen (or already own) Season 1 of this cartoon, it is ABSOLUTELY VITAL that you do so before looking at Season 2, as both series so far comprise one colossal, closely-integrated, ongoing saga. If you already own Season 1, you will probably own this set already, having pre-ordered it well in advance, like I did. But if you haven't seen any form of "The Venture Brothers" yet, now is a good time to start by purchasing both series at once, especially if you like shows like "Family Guy", "Futurama," or any other animated comedy with adult sensibilities and humour and frequent pop-culture references.

Once again, [adult swim] and Astrobase Go! bring us 13 more episodes of pure adult cartoon genius, jam-packed to the gills with fun and hilarity, ranging from the highly intellectual, through the incredibly subtle and jaw-droppingly shocking, and into the basest infantile crudeness, with even more "Star Wars" references than "Family Guy" can muster in three whole seasons, if you can imagine (not counting their "Star Wars" parody specials, that is). As the dust begins to settle from the concatenation of astounding circumstances and machinations of the last series, the characters we met must rise to new challenges. There is no way I can go into minute detail without spoiling too many surprises, but here's an extended teaser:

Failed super-scientist Dr. Thaddeus Venture and his kill-happy bodyguard, Brock Samson, must cope with staggering life changes. Super-villain The Monarch must escape from prison, rebuild his organisation, and reclaim his sultry second-in-command, Dr. Girlfriend. Hyper-dramatic necromancer Dr. Orpheus strives to hit the big time with an arch-enemy of his very own. Meet new characters and say good-bye to old ones. Find out what the Monarch's two steadiest henchmen, Numbers 21 and 24, look like under their costumes. See Dr. Girlfriend in Ultimate Butt-Kicking Mode, and find out how she can win the heart of just about any man she encounters, despite having the unsexiest voice EVER. Death and destruction flow like water. Super-science challenges magic. Find out what happened to Jonny Quest. Old relationships are torn asunder and new ones are formed. Zombies, ghosts, aliens, and historical figures abound. Time-travelling story lines will make your head hurt. Hank and Dean Venture must navigate the treacherous waters of puberty on their way to adulthood. Favours are called in, unlikely alliances form and disintegrate, and unexpected puppet-masters pull strings in the background. All this and much, much, much more build elaborately toward a two-part, cliff-hanger season finale which will have you chomping at the bit for Season 3. And on top of all that, loads of extras, deleted scenes, and commentaries on every episode extend the enjoyment several-fold.

Right. I'm officially chomping at the bit for Season 3. Get moving on that pronto, [adult swim], or I will unleash my Walking Eye war machine on your secret headquarters. Thank you.
