this book has some very useful techniques that are found contained with in the krav maga family, covering step by step instruction on defence against knife, gun and blunt weapons.Pictures are in black and white, which like David Kahn book are very detailed and cover most of the same principles, having come from the same source originally with minor differences.

3.0 out of 5 stars Third in the series, 6 July 2010

This is the third book in the series (or three) by Darren Levine and co-authors (Ryan Hoover in this case). Pitched as 'Black Belt Krav Maga - Elite Techniques of the World's Most Powerful Combat System', this book presents techniques in terms of specific situations / threats ('handguns', 'carjacking', 'edged weapons') and includes chapters where the defender is armed ('blunt objects vs edged weapons' for example). The first book in this series ('Krav Maga For Beginners') introduces 'combatives', 'defensives' and 'groundfighting', the second book (Complete Krav Maga) takes a belt based approach outlining techniques associated with different 'grades'. All of the books in the series have a similar layout and include clear text and photographs taking readers through the different techniques. They also outline some of the key principles of Krav Maga. While some of the situations / techniques are hopefully ones most people will never encounter (e.g. disarming an assailant who is armed with a hand grenade!), this book does represent a step up in terms of the responses presented. Along with that a certain level of experience of, and familiarity with, the techniques contained in the other two volumes is assumed and built on. NO BOOK WILL TEACH YOU TO BE A MARTIAL ARTIST and no book can replace regular attendance at a reputable club...BUT publications like this one can act as a reminder of techniques learned in class. However, for a book best suited to that role you would be better off with the second in this series - Complete Krav Maga. This particular book is a good complement to the others in the series, and the series as a whole are better that some of the others on the topic of Krav Maga but you'd be best off to join a class and practice, practice, practice!

1.0 out of 5 stars outlandish, 8 Sept. 2010
Absolute fantasy. the firearm disarms are absolute crap. i tried to give this book a fair chance but look, the greenest civvie with a handgun will take the head off a martial artist every time. there is even a section on removing a hot grenade from someones hand and not only surviving the encounter but also vapourising the assailant while you yourself remaining unscathed. there's an absolutely insane section on carjackings where the driver ends up in posession of a handgun previously wielded by a jacker located outside of the car. this book will end lives and not the thief / assailant but rather the misguided practitioner. to finish with three concise words: madness, misleading, fantasy.
