I can't believe this has been removed from Prime! We are just about to start season 2 and there's no way we're going to pay £1.89 per episode!
Amazon, put it back on Prime and stop being money grabbers!

Having grown up on a diet of the classic musicals, I'm pleased to see music making a comeback in both film and tv, and so looked forward to seeing what they did with this show. Overall I really like this season - once I get past the very American emphasis on football and popularity etc. (Yes, I know it's a part of school culture everywhere, but I can't help wondering how much some of these shows perpetuate it ...) Anyway, the characters are a little one dimensional in this first series at least, but the music is excellent. My only quibble on that front is the fact that the soundtrack sounds exactly like that - as though the radio is playing and the actors are miming. OK, I know they're miming, but in the old movies, the sound was integrated in such a way as to sound live, where as this sounds (and looks) completely separate. Don't get me wrong, I think the voices and the arrangements are stunning; but I can never get past the sense of the studio recording playing over the top of the visuals, so it doesn't feel real to me. Overall, the niggles only pull this series back a little, though, so I'd give it 4.5 stars.
