5.0 out of 5 stars Marlowe in the Courtauld
For anyone who has not strolled down the Strand and turned into the Courtauld, this is an excellent introduction and one which will encourage viewers to go there. Somerset House is worth a visit too.

Unlike one reviewer who finds his extra long clothes a distraction, I have not noticed his clothes. He is too interesting for that. This DVD is a collections of...

1.0 out of 5 stars Courtauld on DVD
The Courtauld Gallery is a wonderful selection of art works in London's Somerset House; it sits with the Courtauld Institute which is one of the foremost institutions for studying history of art. Unfortunately this DVD is something of an abomination. There is a good amount of art history in it, but the general quality is very poor. On our copy the sound reproduction was...

This DVD is a collections of his television programmes shown on Sky Arts and they are excellent examinations of the Courtauld Collections. His attention to detail leaves little unnoticed and his facility with language makes him an excellent guide and critic. Not everyone can express complex ideas about art while in the glare of the lights.

Marlowe can and does. Highly recommended.

Tim Marlow is easy to listen to, and the disc has three 24 minute episodes. The series is obviously designed for showing with commercial breaks as it has a tendency to repeat itself during an episode. As well at looking at paintings like the fantastic "A Bar at the Folies-Bergere" he also give us a peek at the conservation department. One episode is particularly useful for explaining the meanings behind the religious works you might be tempted to hurry past.
