`The Other Guys' is a pretty decent comedy film that follows the tired and tested police buddy movie format.

Will Ferrell joins Mark Wahlberg as they attempt to bring an unscrupulous Ponzi investor to justice. But to be honest the storyline takes a backseat to the comedy interaction between Ferrell and Wahlberg who are both genuinely funny and made me chuckle out loud at numerous points. If you have seen other Ferrell films with his slightly offbeat, random comedy then you know what to expect. Saying that, this doesn't maintain that level of quirkiness the whole way though, like other films of his (Talladega Heights springs to mind), but it does come back to the more outlandish humour at regular intervals.

To be honest the story is pretty weak and formulaic, but you don't really notice this as you watch the film. You are so engrossed in the lines and back and forth between the characters that you don't pick this film apart too much and if you take it on face value as the light hearted comedy it is, you should enjoy this just fine. It doesn't take itself too seriously and makes for an evenings entertaining viewing.

Sometimes a `comedy' film boasts a whole host of A-list comedic actors and ends up not being particularly funny at all. Now, `The Other Guys' may have veteran comedian Will Ferrell as top billing, but Mark Wahlberg is an unlikely partner for an out-and-out comedy film.

But then The Other Guys isn't really a comedy. The humour is strange and not that obvious, let alone appreciated by all. I've seen plenty of reviews where people claim not to have laughed once. I, on the other hand, couldn't seem to stop laughing all the way through. However, like I say, this isn't really a comedy. It's only slightly less serious than the Lethal Weapon films. It's really a buddy-cop movie with shoot-outs, car chases and double-crossing that just so happens to be quite amusing as an off-shoot.

Ferrell and Wahlberg play off each other well and the supporting stars all have their moments, too. It's hard to say what the target audience is, as the film encompasses so many genres. I guess it's a bit of a shot in the dark as to whether you'll enjoy it or not. But, if you're generally into Will Ferrell movies, or you're in the mood for an action/thriller/cop movie/comedy then give it a go.

This was a very, very good surprise - especially as the trailer back in the cinema sort of put me off and I didn't go to see it! I have seen A LOT of comedies in the last year or two and while a few were good - the first Hangover, Crazy Stupid Love - with most of them I couldn't shake off the feeling that I 'had to laugh because what was being shown was supposed to be funny'. But I didn't actually find much of it funny... With this film everything just worked.

The characters and their dialogue were quirky while genuinely endearing - none of this annoying Hollywood style of acting in recent years where they sprout off a load of 'witty' banter crap that doesn't make any sense but is supposed to make them look cool and be funny!!

The situations and plot also strike the right balance between being unpredictable but not balls-out bizarre just for the sake of it. I won't give any of it away.

In summary, I think I am perhaps a bit more demanding of comedy to be satisfied by a few gross-out moments and this film definitely stood head and shoulders above the recent crop for me. I rented it but actually want to own it!

This is one of the best films ever - the opening is brilliant and unexpected (well the first time round!!!). Eva Mendes is awesome as Wills wife, with some great one liners all round. This film is a hoot from start to finish.
Buy it !!! I promise you will be quoting lines from it for ever!!!! As i do - "Aim for the bushes", I'm calling BS on that, I need an MRI!

Loved the story and have to say it is tops, The beginning is fabulous and the cast is full of comedy and a bit of action thrown in so you wont be disappointed. Marvelous one liners and believe me you wont know what's going on next, Mark and Will you have you in stitches with the antics that they get up to, funny and unforgettable footage that you must see, no more clues as not to spoil it, now it's your turn to have a peek and be the judge, so get up grab your popcorn, get ready for a great time in front of the television with fantastic first class entertainment, Have you got it yet,
gee your slow, stop reading this and sit back and relax don't forget to put your feet up. I rated this show an A grade plus for keeping me in one place long enough to enjoy a marvelous movie that will put a smile on your face.

This is an incredibly funny film. The dialogue is drollery of the best kind; it takes a really clever script writer to produce so much silliness that manages to be unflaggingly entertaining. WF and MW are excellent throughout -- a most inspired pairing! Highly recommended.

I really am going to have to start taking viewer ratings with a pinch of salt when films like this get 4 stars overall and 8.2 on IMDB. It just awful.

It starts out unfunny, stays unfunny for about 30 mins (although there are attempts at humour), picks up and becomes funny for about 2 scenes and then is just awful for the next hour or so.

I like Will Ferrel. I even like Mark Wahlberg - but together - they just don't work. There is zero chemistry between them on screen and the jokes are weak, the story long, pointless and convoluted.

By the end I'd lost the will to watch it and just had it playing in the background. It just didn't work. I seriously thought about giving it 1 star but think a 2 star rating is probably more accurate.

This is the sort of movie Salvador Dali might have written after watching all of the Lethal Weapon movies and then thought I want to write a comedy. Sometimes you laugh because it is funny, sometimes you laugh because you can't believe anyone ever made a movie like this. It has a point and a message about Wall Street crooks, it has a message about the run of the mill everyday people who get the jobs done and don't seek the glory. Then it has some awful misogynistic, sexist and racist lines that just don't hit the mark. They just go more to bad taste and not sharp humour.

I just cannot hope to summarise it. This is a film you have to watch to appreciate. It is completely and utterly insane but the end credits show a more serious side.

This movie was recommended to me recently, and despite being disappointed by the last four or five Will Ferrell starring outings I've seen I thought I'd give it a go. It starts off as a high-octane cop thriller set in New York, however once this somewhat misleading opening pans out, what's left is a frankly bizarre offbeat comedy, whereby Ferrell and extremely angry partner become embroiled in the dodgy dealings of Steve Coogan's foppish businessman. Suffice to say it's a mediocre affair with a couple of laugh-out-loud moments and some unsatisfying cameos from the likes of Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Samuel L Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.

I loved every moment of this film. It is a comedy classic in the waiting.

it plays perfectly between being a standard comedy and an all out spoof!
Chemistry is everything, and Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg have it in bucket loads. they play off of each other so well, it would be a real shame if they didn't take advantage of it in future films.
It also marks a real return to form for ferrel, who nails every line in this movie.

The semi-cameos at the opening of the film with Samuel L Jackson and Dwayne "the rock" Johnson were fantastic, with Jackson in particular playing up the cop image amazingly.

Rented this movie, but its a must have for the collection so will be buying this at a later date.
