5.0 out of 5 stars A collector's Classic Album, 24 Oct. 2008

I paid big money for this album, but it was worth it.
This album was long lost it the list of deleted albums that with time became timeless `old school classics'.

The tilted track, Take It To The Limit is an absolute high steppin' gem.

Norman Connors was the Quincy Jones of his time, always employing top notch songwriters and using his skills to bring together singers that were at their peak and putting them together with talented musicians under the umbrella of his production.

Just to make the point, on this album, the Jones Girls, Leon Ware and Jean Carn only make it as background vocalists!

I Don't Need Nobody Else is a great `Caister' dance classic, which feature Al Johnson. Glen Jones leaves us speechless with Melancholy Fire.

This album is expensive, from what I can see, but I say 2 things:
1. This album is a Japanese import, deleted elsewhere around the world
2. It is timeless and a must for the serious music lovers and collectors

The reality is, when it gone, it's gone!

I owned 'Take It To The Limit' on vynyl and wanted to be reunited with this outstanding album. The inclusion on this CD of the follow up 'Mr C' is a master stroke in that, the whole collection gels nicely. The input of world class artists in their own right, namely Glenn Jones, Jean Carne, Leon Ware, Beau Williams, Al Johnson, Freddie Hubbard, Adaritha and the Jones Girls takes this collection to another level. The mastering, songwriting, arrangements and production are all first class. Each track oozes quality and is testament to the genius of Norman Connors - in fact I'm so impressed with this CD I'm in danger of wearing it out!!. Personal favourite for me is the sublime 'Justify'. If you appreciate the finest in soul jazz fusion this is an essential purchase. Can't recommend this CD highly enough.

I am a big Norman Conners fan and I have seen him live on 2 occasions. There are always going to be some stand tracks on these albums and on this point the album does not fail to deliver. These 2 albums are well produced and its great that these albums are more widely available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr C is a killer LP, 26 Nov. 2012
By
ROGER BARLOW (LONDON/NEW YORK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Take It To The Limit / Mr. C (Audio CD)
Both these albums are from the early 80s when NC had totally moved away from his experimental jazzy style to a more mainstream soul dance sound. however, he does it very well, especially on Mr C - which is maybe the most consistent solid album he ever made. As always the guest vocalists and musicianship are as good as it gets. Check the pacy instrumental title track of Mr.C or the slightly latino groove of "stay with me", killer stuff!
