5.0 out of 5 stars good collection at a good price
FIVE STARS! The box sticker on this double cd collection promising 'heavy dub classics' doesn't do the package any favours, and may well mislead potential purchasers into thinking they are buying something they are not - this isn't all supercharged 'pounding system' megga-bass dub. 3.0 out of 5 stars a disappointing compilation
the cover proclaims "40 hard and heavy sounds!" but the whole thing is pretty lightweight, particularly the start of disc 1,
theres some really strange choices for supposed heavy dub compilation: ie:Gregory Isaacs & Susan Cadogan but no Tappa Zukie or Prince Far-I,
and Just one unrepresentative track from Augustus Pablo

nothing on "foundation dubs"...

FIVE STARS! The box sticker on this double cd collection promising 'heavy dub classics' doesn't do the package any favours, and may well mislead potential purchasers into thinking they are buying something they are not - this isn't all supercharged 'pounding system' megga-bass dub. What you do get is a really interesting selection of dub tracks and styles, with some better-known rhythms and some much rarer tracks. The quality seems pretty high, with less of the filler material that is an unfortunate feature of some earlier Trojan compilations. I think it's an excellent selection, particularly at this very reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top selection of rare sounds, 11 Aug. 2010

This is an extremely listenable section of rare Dubs that traces the evolution of the style from the early seventies through to the end of the decade. Needless to say, with even the mighty Trojan limited by what music it is able to include, not every Dub great is highlighted to the full, but with all the material apparently unavailable elsewhere and the ridiculously low asking price, I don't think anyone can seriously state that this isn't extremely good value for money!

nothing on "foundation dubs" is even as heavy/Dark as UB40's Present arms in Dub and thats hardly considered hardcore!

Don Lett's "Dread meets Punk rockers uptown", although not entirely dubs has a much better selection of classic dark & Heavy dubs

I also recommend Virgins "adventures in and beyond dub" which has only one duff track and has some Excellent Jamaican originals

the Burning Spear Productions compilation has some great dubs too

also i find some of the mastering choices on "foundaton dubs" perverse, very few of the tracks have a killer low end, and the harsh treble really screams in a few places

i really expected something more hypnotic and satisfying from this cd.
I really don't know who this cd is aimed at or who will get much out of it

maybe i'm getting old & jaded
