5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Buy,
This review is from: Everybody/Girls & Boys (Audio CD)Despite already having mp3 downloads of all three of Ingrid Michaelson's albums, I bought this anyway.
It includes the Everybody album and Girls and Boys. Both are brilliant albums. As a writer she is incredibly talented and writes songs that are easy to relate to and easy to listen too.
Her albums have so far been unreleased in the UK, but she recently found success here as the writer of Cheryl Cole's Parachute single. So this double album has been released to bring her further into the attention of the UK masses.
Her songs are often in Grey's Anatomy. The song 'Keep Breathing' appeared in the season 3 finale and is a hauntingly beautiful song. Her song 'Be OK' is also appearing in a mobile phone advert at the moment. She is a regular in film soundtracks.
What's great about this pack is, in addition to the two albums you get 'Be Ok' 'Keep Breathing' and 'You and I' from the Be Ok album. You also get Ingrid's version of Parachute. The song is a better Cheryl Cole song than an Ingrid Michaelson song.
I personally prefer Girls and Boys over Everybody. However it is one of the few artists where I can say I like every song. Definitely give it a go if you like music with heart and meaning.
If you like Sara Bareilles then their styles are very similar.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant,
This review is from: Everybody/Girls & Boys (Audio CD)Bought this album a few weeks ago and haven't stopped listening since! Ingrid is a talent I wish I'd discovered sooner, with a beautiful voice and melodies that really sink into your skin after a few listens. I've turned my mum and sister on to her too. If you've only heard one or two of Ingrid's songs and are undecided, do what I did and take the plunge. Two albums for £12 is a bargain however you look at it, and you won't be disappointed here.
Favourite songs include : The Chain, Soldier, Locked Up, Parachute, Die Alone, Masochist, and Corner of Your Heart.
And if you like what you hear here, then check out "Winter Song", her duet with Sarah Bareilles. Simply stunning.
5.0 out of 5 stars lucky dip,

5.0 out of 5 stars Ingrid - where have you been all my life?,
This review is from: Everybody/Girls & Boys (Audio CD)Decided to go and see her concert in London on the back of the single 'Maybe, which was the only track of hers I'd come across, but kept returning to on youtube. Thought I ought to familiarise myself with her work a bit more in the days before the show and this seemed a good place to start (i.e. it was quite cheap!!).
It's great: full of variety, great hooks, wonderful vocals and excellent musicianship and production. Everyone will have there own favourites; for me The Hat, Soldier and the utterly glorious The Chain are standouts, but there isn't a duff track on either album.
I am utterly besotted with Ingrid; the concert was mindblowing and the latest album, Human Again, is better still than this outstanding package, which is probably the best £10 I ever spent.
5.0 out of 5 stars Everybody knows these songs yet doesn't know Ingrid!,
This review is from: Everybody/Girls & Boys (Audio CD)If you've seen the google chrome/email advert, or almost any US tv show, or hear Cheryl Cole singing Parachute, you're already familiar with Ingrid and love her music, and you didn't even know it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Superb,
This review is from: Everybody/Girls & Boys (Audio CD)The moment I put the first disc (Everybody) in my CD player, I was impressed. And the best thing is that the initial impression has not faded. There are many songs between the two discs that I love.
Both albums are good in their own right, though I definitely prefer 'Everybody' over 'Girls and Boys'. Getting both albums in this one package plus the song 'Parachute' makes this special edition great value for money; you get tons of good material for the price.
Michaelson's songs have great melodies. The songs are catchy but they also have a great deal of substance. The lyrics are clever, thoughtful, and engaging. They speak of a longing for love and an end to loneliness, but they are not songs of despair but songs of hope. The result is both emotive and uplifting.
Michaelson has a great voice that conveys emotion in her songs well. Yet her voice is different to those typically heard in 'pop' music; it has a different quality - to me it sounds much more natural and warm than the voices on many records.
The music is largely acoustic guitar based, which suits her voice and the style of her songs well, but there are occasional bursts of heavier electric guitar, which have good effect due to the contrast with the otherwise acoustic style.
I could write at length about the merits of many of the songs, but I shall just mention a few of my favourites here. 'Soldier' is brilliant in its clever use of rhythm with military-like precision, the catchy chorus melody, and its clever lyrics. 'Incredible Love' is a slower and almost seductive track with a suggestion of desire for the forbidden. 'Parachute' is the most pop-like of the songs, but is brilliantly catchy with heart-warming lyrics. 'Die Alone' is again catchy, and cleverly manages to be convey both sincere sentiment and an element of whimsy. 'Corner of Your Heart' is eerie, haunting, and beautiful.
In summary, Michaelson has written two brilliant albums with superb melodies and thoughtful lyrics, which she sings beautifully. I would highly recommend her music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful,
This review is from: Everybody/Girls & Boys (Audio CD)A wonderful double-album of excellent songs. Even when you really like an artist, you often find that their album has the big hits everybody knows and an assortment of filler tracks. All of Ingrid's tracks are great - some greater than others, of course, but there are no duff ones.
She has a lovely voice, and you can often hear her getting carried away with the emotion of the song. This is one reason I enjoy singer-songwriters; the songs are personal and mean something to the singer, and you can hear it in her voice.
If you find you like it, pick up the album "Be OK" as well.
