This review is from: Djangologists (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after seeing the Rosenberg trio in London last year and I was not disappointed. You really have to be a fan of the gendre to really appreciate this music and if you are a first timer to this pre-war gypsy jazz style then you are far better of getting a Stephan Grappelli/Django Reinhardt CD from their Hot Club of Paris period in pre-war France. Having said that this is a superb representation of Django's music with the added bonus of more modern recording techniques. They seem to effortlessly stroll through these more obscure Django tunes but you have to be good to make music seem this easy.
Also making an appearance is Birelli Lagrene probably currently the most talented and inventive of this new era of guitarist he guests here on both Guitar and Bass and adds his own personal sparkle.
A good album for fans of this style music and it's accompanied by a DVD of the Guys recording the album somewhere in the Netherlands.
There are about 15 of their albums to choose from but Live from the North Sea Jazz festival is another good album from the Cousins.
Also I would like to give a name check to Jimmy Rosenberg who is another exponent of modern Gypsy Jazz, another Cousin I believe check out any of his albums Django's Tiger is one that comes to mind. Give them a go!
