5.0 out of 5 stars Original, New Skool Old Skool Reggae/Latin Grooves!, 12 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Dog With A Rope (Audio CD)
This album is similar to that of Quantics previous attempt of combining latin and jamaican music - and doing it very successfully! What I love about this album is the sound he achieves; its not like all the crappy pop you hear on the radio, which is over-produced nonsense with no dynamic range (sorry to be blunt!). There is an original sound, a bit like that of the label 'Daptone' ( Soul label worth checking out).
Anyway, for those of you who are fans of reggae/dub (King Tubby, Scientist, Lee Perry, Prince Jammy amongst others) and are partial to some nicely recorded, non-cheesy latin then this IS for you! There is a nice blend of original tracks with Buena Vista Social Club-esque vocals combined with that nice deep round bass and reverb/delays that you expect with dub music; not to mention the versions of some of the tracks! I really recommend this album, it is a rarity these days to find someone that knows how to get a good old-skool sound! I hope this was helpful :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brill chill cuban vibes, 21 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Dog With A Rope (Audio CD)
If you love the rest of their albums you will love this one - funky cuban style, great anytime - had lots of friends asking where is it from! A BBQ essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hurt my fingers bangin' on the desk., 7 Aug. 2010

This review is from: Dog With A Rope (Audio CD)
This is a great gem of an album! From the first listening, already it has got right under my skin, sitting at my computer, drumming away at the desk with my, soon to be bruised fingers, and bouncing in ma' seat to the infectious grooves.

I expect to hear this album in every backpackers hostel, in every country, much like the Manu Chao album was when that first come about, simply because it reeks of good time vibes!

Get it and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly happy, 20 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Dog With A Rope (Audio CD)
Infectious music. Just rolls along in a really sunny, happy groove from the fusion reggae of Dog on a Rope to more straightforward traditionally instrumented latin stuff.
Excellent from start to finish ( maybe with exception of Te Pico El Yaibi (Version) whose Dub stylings get a little lost and tedious).
