I have one of these at home already as we have a chef in our household. Having been cooking myself for nearly 30 years I never thought I'd use it, but it's fantastic. My son has just started University and as he has started to cook for himself it's a great item to have to help learn when food is cooked. A must buy for all those regular cooks and a essential item for beginning cooks!!!

excellent for the price and easy to use. Besides using for meat it has been very useful in measuring the water temperature when baking bread.

Simple to use. Has four selection buttons, on/off with current temp measurement, max recorded temp measurement, min recorded temp measurement, hold. To be honest, the only one 99% of people will use 99% of the time is on/off.

I calibrated the temp measurement in boiling water at atmospheric pressure (or, as it's often called, an open saucepan) and it was accurate to within 1 degree, which is fair enough.

Massive temp range of -50 to +300 C makes it extremely versatile.

Have used it to determine steak temps in the middle of the meat and it's been perfect every time. No more guess work. I thought it's response time was pretty good....a few secs to stabilise at 45 degrees Centigrade. Maybe at higher temps it might be longer but I'm not sure that's a big deal.

Metal needle seems long enough and sturdy enough to penetrate good sized meat joints, but that's a guess on my part so far, as I've not done that yet.

All this for £5 and free delivery. There is nothing that warrants critisism at this price.

Am very happy with this as have needed one for some time and they are quite expensive to buy in the stores. I wouldn't mind paying a bit as long as it was a good device but some are poor for the money. However I found this one and it had good reviews so I decided to take a chance. I used it last night for the first time on a joint of topside beef, and it was cooked to perfection!!!!!!!!!! We like it medium/rare and this device was accurate and spot on! Well worth the money, very inexpensive :)

This is a great item. I would not be without it. If it breaks - I will be surprised if it did - I would order another one.

This is pretty good for what it is, it would appear to do the job, I have used it a couple of times to make sure the steak is cooked on the inside to my wifes taste (no blood well done) according to my steak book it should be around 78-82 degrees at the center, it was and the steak was good for her. My only critique would be that there is no back light and the numbers are hard to see but there again I struggle to see my watch. I think that it is neatly made and the materials seem of a decent quality.

Managed to get my steaks just right with this little tool. The top isn't waterproof, so you have to be careful when cleaning. Response time is OK, but what would you expect for the price! (£8.98)

Arrived quite quickly, but doesn't work at all. I spent extra money buying new batteries in case the one provided had run dry, but even with brand new batteries this thermometer won't even turn on. Seems very cheap and poorly made.

I've used this thermometer three or four times a week to test food temperatures and to check on the oil temperature in my deep fat fryer. I've checked it against known temperatures (room and boiling) and it seems very reliable. Its temperature range is -50C to 300C (can be reset to F), with memory of the last reading, and a battery auto-shutdown after 10 mins.

I'd only relied on bi-metallic meat thermometers before, and was impressed by the much faster reaction speed of this digital one. Even better for meat temperatures, the shaft of the digital one is only 3.5 mm in diameter and 14.5 cm long, leaving a much smaller hole than the 6 mm of the bi-metallic one.

The thermometer is light, neat and well made. The display screen is a little small and low-contrast (black on white) for anyone with weakened eyesight. The battery/display casing is plastic, so care needs to be taken when holding near the hot side of a pan, and the thermometer can't be used for jams or sugars. It's also not waterproof, so only clean the probe after use.

Overall, I'm very happy with this product, and would buy another if needed.
