It's all been said in other reviews. This is an excellent bit of kit that you can use for any recordings. Because it has a 'rehearsal' facility, you can set it to automatically set the record level, its pretty fool-proof. Does sharp, high quality recording in stereo and sets up files as WAVs or MP3s. Just connect up to your computer, upload the files, and use as they are, or adjust them with any studio software you like. I did a lot of analysis before I bought this one and I think this was the right choice. If you do go for some PC digital recording software get something that's not to complex - that usually means it doesn't cost much more than £30. Try the free Open System (and free) Audacity application first to see if editing recordings is something you are really going to do before you buy some software and get into learning how it all works. That route is quite a commitment
I've been using this for recording single track, stereo, music. It has a great live sound to it and the way you can monitor what the unit is 'hearing' through a pair of earphones whilst recording or rehearsing before recording is a big plus point. I have also been using this in my presentation coaching for professionals - and again for rehearsing a presentation, listening back to what they sound like, or recording them for development, it is perfect. Very clear and powerful recordings with no need to add mics, wires, mixers, or anything. Keep it simple. All I then have to do is transfer the files by attaching the R-05 to my PC via a USB cable and create a CD by transfering the files (drag and drop) to iTunes or email them as attachements.
Have also imported the files into Cubase and mixed with new materials and overlays. Dead easy. Would never be without something like this again. It's so portable i've even recorded sounds outside ( you need the wind sponge that comes with it to do this without wind rumble). Great to bring back memories via a sound recording from the beach, a wedding, my band, and grand children's voices. A great new way for me to create family archives.
