Almost 50 years after her untimely death from a brain haemorrhage in Chicago at such a young age, the fabulous Tiny Topsy finally makes it to a legit CD. Her Federal 45s have long been a favorite of R&B collectors and they're all here, including the originally unissued 'A Woman's Intuition', which only previously appeared on a bootleg LP on Official label out of Denmark. That LP actually included all Topsy's songs which are presented here, however unfortunately they were all mastered TOO FAST on that album. With this CD from Ace, we get them at the correct speed and direct from the master tapes. For the uninformed, Topsy's voice is a cross between LaVern Baker and Big Maybelle. It's a pity that Ace couldn't squeeze both sides of her 1961 single for Argo Records on the end of this CD, however this one's still great as it is.
Lula Reed's later Federal recordings round out this CD, and whilst not quite in the same league as Topsy's energetic vocal prowess, they make a nice coupling and contrast. Highly recommended!
