An Excellent Mystery
on 11 December 2000
29 year old Doctor Helen Dawson takes a temporary position at her lover's private clinic, catering for the needs of a celebrity clientele. But matters are complicated when Helen discovers that 'matron' is an old schoolfriend of hers, with whom she had a fling that Helen would rather forget.
The characters are engaging and well-rounded. As well as Dr Dawson, there is her domineering lover, and the action movie star that she builds a relationship with in the hospital. There is the vivacious dominatrix matron and the two bisexual male doctors into piercing. There is the sweet relationship between the fitness trainer and an ageing but still beautiful actress.
With all of these present, there is plenty of opportunity for steamy and varied sex (and who would have thought maternity stirrups could be used for *that* purpose!). There is a good deal of bonking and even the 'good guys' end up doing things that could get them struck off.
But at the heart of it all is a great central mystery: Just what is going on in the mysterious west wing? And who, if anyone, can be trusted? Okay, its more Nancy Drew than John Le Carre, but it kept me gripped until the last page and deservedly gets 5 stars.
If you like mysteries (and sex), then you will love this book.
