TOP 500 REVIEWERon 2 June 2011
This kit contains the essentials for driving in Europe - with the addition of a reasonably handy AA book that gives some additional useful information like speed limits and toll road charges. Best of all the whole kit comes in a useful bag that you can store in the car. Works out cheaper than buying the individual component products although depending on where you are planning to drive, the first aid kit is not essential but nevertheless a useful thing to have. Highly recommended.

As an aside, some reviewers here commented on poor delivery. Of course this is the place to review the product rather than delivery but there are a number of vendors who supply this product through Amazon. I cannot comment on the others, but the cheapest when I bought mine was Tamar Shop - and delivery was excellent. Order dispatched that day and arrived two days later. Definitely best not to leave buying this to the day before you are planning to leave but if you use this supplier, I'd have no fears about delivery.

2012 Edit: Note that you now need to carry breathalyser kits in France too which are - or certainly were - not included in this kit. Also remember that although it's not part of the requirement, you really need two breathalysers - otherwise if you have one, use it, find you are OK to drive, you are suddenly illegal because you don't have a breathalyser! Vive la difference!

The AA Euro Travel Kit is essential for driving in france but the light converters are one use only and leave a sticky mess all over the headlights. Clean with warm soapy water, more like scrub and scrape. half the price of Halfords at the time of purchase.

Ok if you have nothing and are travelling alone but I'm not overly impressed.

The driving guide is quite useful if you've never driven in Europe before, but not essential.

You do have to have a warning triangle and GB sign but most modern cars have both of these already (check your boot and number plate!)

The GB magnetic plate didn't stick to any of my car so it was lucky I didn't need it.

Pack contains only one high visibility jacket and all passengers are required to wear one in most places if you break down, so make sure you buy enough.

Would have been cheaper if I bought the actual items I needed separately.

Let's be honest here: most people buy one of these kits to comply with the regulations rather than because they think they need one. I did too.

This kit is more comprehensive than AA's France-specific kit as it has a bulb kit, a first-aid kit and the AA European Drivers Handbook. While most of the other items have limited use in the UK, the bulbs and the first-aid kit are both something you should keep in your car anyway and so they seem like a worthwhile addition. As far as I know, it is not a legal requirement in the UK to carry a warning triangle but many cars have them anyway.

What's missing, though, is the NF approved breathalysers. However, these can be purchased separately for a few pounds.

The kit comes in a handy and compact but not terribly high quality pouch. Mine had a slightly broken zipper which I was able to fix.

The beam converters have a high-quality adhesive and are easy to apply on a wide variety of headlights. The GB plate is magnetic which is particularly handy for rental cars; if your numberplate has a GB logo, you won't need it.

So far everything has held up fine. I have no reason to believe they would break in use but if they did, I'd be quite happy to buy another kit. These are emergency items and, to be perfectly frank, I'm not too worried about their durability.

Even if you're only driving in France, I recommend skipping the AA France kit and buying this and a disposable, approved breathalyser or two. The extra accessories make this a useful kit to keep in your car, even when driving in the UK.

1. This kit did not have any breathalysers despite many AA kits stating that they had them! We did not notice this ommision in the AA kit we eventually purchased

2. The Magnetic GB badge was too big for the only metallic section on the back of my car so I had to purchase a stick-on one from the Ticket Office at the Euro-Tunnel Station - The Counter Clerk there said they were given to them for sale BY the AA - I later found out why when I had to use the Magnetic GB badge in France (when I had my Automatic Roof Lowered because the Stick-on badge was on the lowered window). The Magnetic GB badge was so weak it disappeared in the wind on the Autoroute!! This weakness was obviously known to be the case by the AA, otherwise why did they give the stronger Stick-on ones to the Ticket Office where you had to pay again for the same item you had already purchased in their Kit!

I would not use an AA kit again, because I had assumed it would be a better quality kit as it was a top organisation, and it cost twice as much as cheaper kits which actually HAD Breathalysers included and probably stronger magnetic GB Badges I would now expect!!

As a necessary requirement for European travel this kit contained all the items we needed. The value and the quality were both outstanding

This offers a one-stop shop for the things you'll need to drive in most continental European countries.

The book is a useful confirmation of what you can find on the web anyway, but the other bits give you the secure knowledge that you meet the legal requirements for most countries.

All you'll need then is a SatNav that works in Europe!
