I checked several options before choosing this one, but none gave ALL the dimensions I'd need to ensure what I was buying would fit, so it was a fingers crossed decision, which turned out to be perfect.

One independent website I tried showed a picture which looked exactly the same as my old basket BUT gave a seal dia as 86mm so luckily I avoided buying that one.

Even Mc Alpine's website doesn't give all the dimensions, so here's a few extra to help you choose with confidence.

Basket dia = 79mm actual ( i.e clearance for the 80mm drain fitting)

Seal dia = 56mm

The centre of the spring loaded ball is 7mm from the base of the shaft shoulder (step). This gives approx 6mm pop-up, so the sink drain flow rate is about twice the time taken with the plug fully removed.

Shaft length = 31mm from the shoulder.

Shaft dia = 7.75mm ( i.e. clearance for the 8mm hole).

Delivery was very fast and the item was well packed. Free postage and a fair price considering the bother I'd had with repairs using expoy resin failing after a few months in water.

Hope this helps all you sink basket hunters out there in the Amazon jungle!

Good quality sink strainer, the same as the one that originally came with our sink 12 years ago. Hopefully, it will last as long as the previous strainer, which eventually fell apart due to regular use.

A great price and good service, this strainer can sit in the plug hole and allows water to drain away, but catches waste products. It can be pushed down to act as a plug and allow the sink to be filled with water.

This product is excellent. Make sure the size is right. Even though the cost of delivery is high the overall price is OK.

My previous plugs have gradually disintegrated over the past few years so I have been on the look out for a suitable replacement. This 80mm strainer is perfectly sized and looks great. Even better for the price, haven't been able to find this anywhere else so highly recommened.

What can I say? Amazon? Amazazing more like!

I thought my life was destined for disappointment, as the trusty strainer plug in my kitchen sink had degraded and dissassembled to the extent it wouldn't reassemble, nay couldn't reassemble, regardless of coercion or threat.

It never occured to me that I could start again, with a fresh waste plug, until a friend mentioned they had purchased a new plug, independently of the sink from whence it came!!

I presumed I'd have to wait until I moved house or bought a new kitchen to once again experience the convenience of flowing water while not risking plug-hole cloggery.

Now, I'm like a dog with 2 Kitchen Sink Strainer Waste Plugs. Couldn't be happier.

When you move into a house people very rarely leave the instructions for the sink do they? So, not knowing even what make it was I measured the plughole - 80mm - and took a gamble on this. It fits perfectly - allowing us to fill the sink again and successfully strain the contents. One slight quibble - it is very easy to knock the plug in so that it doesn't drain but you simply pull it out to the draining position again so what am I complaining about? Anyway I think the old one was the same.

Bought to replace the originals that came with our Smeg sink unit.
They lasted less than 2 years. These look to be better quality and they fit perfectly.
Great price too.

I bought this to replace the old one on my kitchen sink, which does not work properly because the roller ball under it came off and got lost. So i decided to buy a new one from amazon. When it arrived i fitted it but it's too small. None of them on amazon mention the size so i assumed maybe they are all one size. It's a shame because the quality of this product is very good. No matter how good it is, if it doesn't fit than it is useless.
