3.0 out of 5 stars Making the most of Twitter, 6 Aug 2009
Given that Twitter is a 140 character micro blog, you would be forgiven for wondering why you need a book to be able to make the most of it.

However, Joel Comm's book provides real insight for the virgin twitterer who plans to use Twitter as a marketing tool for business. He fully explores all the built in Twitter features and shows you everything from maxing your Twitter appearance to keeping your tweets on the right side of libel!

He also explores the profusion of applications created to help you make the most of Twitter. However, bear in mind that the app list will have been superceded almost as soon as the ink dried on the printed page. I'd advise checking out the current selection of apps IN ADDITION to those outlined in the book.

Good book - absolutely worth the money if you plan to use Twitter in a business capacity. Not heavy on the jargon - I found it easy to read and I'm not a techie minded person at all.

Unfortunately, the whole business world is switching on to Twitter and it is increasingly being used in this way - which gets a bit annoying for everyone else on there who doesn't want a marketing man selling them anything. Read the etiquette section carefully so that you don't end up annoying people.

The Anthony Robbins involvement is the Foreword - he doesn't contribute actual copy to the book content.

4.0 out of 5 stars Twitter Power Review by www.customerfuturology.com, 15 April 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Riding on the wave of the Twitter phenomena, online celebrity Joel Comm has written this book to give his readers an insight into how to develop their Twitter profile and gain those valuable followers.

If you are not a user of Twitter either as a personal user or a business looking to dip their toe in the water of social media, this book covers everything. Starting from the basics, this book explains how to open a Twitter account, get the look and feel right with adding your own background, profile picture and any external links you may have. Even though Twitter is very easy to use and quite clearly laid out, I would imagine some people may find this useful.

As the book progresses it clearly outlines to you the does and dont's of managing your Twitter profile from how to build your followers in the right way and how to tweet, which is vital if you are going to both maintain your existing followers and acquire new followers.

One of the chapters explains about some of the various different types of apps available to use in for managing your Twitter profile, tweets, retweets and how to track tweeted links.

Primarily written for businesses but for personal users of Twitter there is a good chapter on Twitter monitoring or `listening' as I like to call it. It explains how to use the search.twitter.com function and then explains how to engage in conversations with those tweeters.

Would I suggest reading it?

Overall it is a good book and purveys Joel's enthusiasm for the subject and more so the Internet. It is best for those coming fresh to Twitter, it is not really for those that currently have accounts, or those people that have read about such corporate successes like; @comcastcares, @southwestair, @btcare and @easyJetcare.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter guide, 6 July 2009

Yes V. Good.

I liked this book very much because it covers everything to give a complete newbie the confidence to start using Twitter to promote their business.

The book covers so many useful topics. Best of all for me was Twitter etiquette and how to avoid annoying fellow twitterers. Also absolutely invaluable references to Twitter tools (mainly free) to ease and enhance your twitter campaign.

Minor criticism, bit short, could have gone deeper with examples of the actual words used to promote. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Sincere thanks to the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, 11 Jan 2010
I bought this book as I am starting my own design and photography business and want to improve my business' presence and image on Twitter, as well as increase my following.

The author guides you through the various ways you can utilize a simple Tweet (as well as the types of Tweets you can create) to market your business. He gives practical examples of Tweets created by successful businesses where possible, which I found extremely handy.

I have since applied his examples and found them hugely successful.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their personal or business profile on Twitter and gain some extra followers in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic and Informative Introduction to Twitter for Business Purposes, 4 April 2011
By

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Twitter has become one of the most prominent social networks, but it's much more than that. In the right hands it becomes a powerful business and advertising tool. Its apparent simplicity belies a rich and powerful architecture that is immensely flexible and capable of addressing a variety of personal and professional needs. It can help a small business connect with new customers and send a word out about its products. It can also help a well established business manage relations with its customers and affiliates, and give it a much more personal and intimate feel. However, exactly because of Twitter's simplicity it is not always clear what approaches and strategies to assume, and what sort of settings and interaction styles are the most appropriate for any given business. In this well written and insightful book Joel Comm aims to address exactly these sorts of issues and introduce Twitterers of all skill levels to the optimum online presence.

The book covers all the basics: setting up your Twitter account, choosing the right kind of layout and design, and the choice of your profile picture. It talks about ways of connecting with friends and potential customers. Most importantly, the book deals with ways of making your Twitter posts relevant and interesting so that people would want to follow you. It also discusses how to drive traffic to your website through Twitter, and the optimum amount of advertising that your followers would appreciate. All these tips are something that you may be able to discover on your own if you are patient enough and willing to learn from your mistakes, but it's very useful to have it all presented in the format of easily navigable book. That way you will hopefully not have to make too many mistakes in your approach to Twitter.

A few topics in the book that are beyond Joel Comm's expertise have been written by experts in those matters. These include the integration of Twitter with some advanced programming tools and the legal aspects of posting things on Twitter. Twitter provides its own set of programming tools (known by the acronym APIs) and as such it is one of the most open online social platforms around. This topic, however, will probably be of the interest only to the more advanced users, so this book only gives the bare-bones overview of further possibilities for those who are ambitious enough to use them. Legal aspects of Twitter, on the other hand, are probably relevant for most users. The book mentions a few possible issues where users could come in touch with law, including posting copyrighted material and libeling individuals or organizations, as well as the slim but real chance of being a victim of identity theft through Twitter. Hopefully, with just enough common sense most people will never have to deal with any of these unpleasant scenarios.

Overall, this is a very interesting and informative book that will be useful to anyone who is serious about extending and improving their online business presence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twitter Power Gives Unique Perspective For Using Twitter, 20 Mar 2012

This micro-blogging social media tool is becoming one of the fastest growing sources for real-time updates on the internet, and Twitter Power gives you the information you need to get the full benefits of this excellent tool.

Joel Comm is already an avid Twitter-user, and in this book he demonstrates what both he and others have found very useful tips to share with readers of this book. And, more importantly, he also shows some of the not so good ways some have used Twitter to avoid pitfalls you could fall into when using Twitter.

This book is highly useful for both beginners and experienced users.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, if you know nothing - Not so good if you know your way around., 29 Jan 2012
If you have never been on Twitter, never set up an account etc then yeah, maybe get the book. But it's really not difficult to set up an account.

It's simple, in fact.

For anyone that knows even the basics the extra information could have been put in a 1000 word article online. All the information is obvious, and has been stretched out.

Like basically he says you need to write good, popular stuff on Twitter. SHOCKER! And that's a chapter, why? To fill pages I suppose.
