5.0 out of 5 stars Miracle articulation of complex concepts, 9 Aug. 2007

This book is a miracle of simple articulation of complex concepts. Rayment-Pickard takes the reader through 50 key concepts of theology. He has brilliantly compressed each chapter into less than two pages, adding concise descriptions of some of the key ideas around each concept and some of the key thinkers. Each short chapter is clear and objective - but it is never dull. Indeed both the content and the style makes the reader thirst for more - both in moving on to a related concept in the book (and there is a very useful index) and in following up the many references to other works. And occasionally Rayment-Pickard allows his personal views to come through: "What liberation theologies have done best, and what they must keep doing, is to remind the churches and nations of their primary religious obligation to eradicate poverty, inequality and oppression". This will be a book to turn to very often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Very Useful, 7 Aug. 2008

A great little book this.

For academic study it is pretty good and a fine place to find 'suitable' theological quotes into general Christian essays.

Comes into its own for leading home groups or similar meetings. Easy to understand and brings core ideas out clearly, and gives enough background to answer most questions and then move on.

Spot on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gold dust for student of theology, 31 May 2008
By
This has been a gold dust book for my studies in applied theology. I have used it so many times when I have hit a dead end in coming up with new and interesting ideas to scribble in my essay. It is one of the books that is a great starting place for leading you one to other ideas and concepts.

If you study theology...get this book for your tool box!

This book is a treasure chest. It contains a wealth of knowledge, which is both accessible and, above all, fascinating.
