You get what you pay for....,

This review is from: Amazon Kindle Keyboard Leather Cover, Black (only fits Kindle Keyboard) (Accessory)
I know there is a lot of discussion on the price of the Kindle cover but I think for a well made, good quality leather product this is about the price I would expect to pay. I paid the same sum for the leather cover on my Sony reader which broke within 5 days. This brief video review shows you how it attaches to the Kindle, closes, and shows why I think it is better than the Sony's similarly priced case for the PRS 505. I hope you find it useful!

Nice quality but......,

Not a bad cover. Nice leather, neat design , but overpriced, particularly when you consider the kindle is only 3 times the prices of this cover. And wouldnt it have been nice to make it left or right handed. The kindle is great having the page switches on both sides. but the cover makes the left hand switches harder to use. I do think the kindle should have come packaged with a cheap sleeve and feel this is a bit of a marketing rip off , (there is no way I can walk round with the kindle unprotected). But, have to say, it does the job. Just well overpriced.

The leather is quite hard and not supple at all. The Amazon-logo tag is actually connected to the elastic - it's not clear from the picture. How long will the elastic last? Velcro® or a popper might have had more longevity. However I do LOVE the "microfibre" interior. It's very tactile, warm and soft. It clips easily to the Kindle. As others have said, the price is so WAY over the top that it's quite grotesque actually. Amazon is abusing its power over its customers in this respect.

Electrostatic discharge causes Kindle freeze/reboot issues,
By
This review is from: Amazon Kindle Keyboard Leather Cover, Black (only fits Kindle Keyboard) (Accessory)
As is widely discussed now on forums and the wider Net - these cases cause the Kindle to reboot sporadically due to static electricity releasing incorrectly through the 'clips' into the Kindle itself. Many repeated tests have shown this to only happen when an Amazon case is attached to the device as it concerns the build-up and release of the static into the device through the holes in the side that it connects too (these same holes contain metal contacts as they are used for powering the light in the Lighted-cases). I would avoid purchasing until Amazon come-up with either a software solution (disabling something to stop the affect??) or a re-design of the case (changing material or the clips in some way). I will be waiting for this to happen and then requesting a free replacement for my xmas present case!

Not Worth £29,

I've been using my Kindle for 2 months now and I'm really disappointed with the Kindle Leather Cover. At first I thought it was fantastic; the Kindle clipped in easily, was protected and looked great. However, I find it really uncomfortable to hold and my left hand aches after a while becasue it's quite heavy. The elastic strap has started to lose its elasticity and the colour is wearing off, especially around the edges. I would expect all this from a cover that is getting jostled about in my bag, but I don't have it with me every day and I've only had it 2 months! In my opionion, it really is not worth the price. I'm now considering getting a completely different cover, so I feel as though I've wasted my money. There are lots of Kindle covers on the market now, so I would advise anyone else to have a really good look around before they purchase this one.

Black Kindle Cover,

I think this case is superb. It has a simple, well thought-out design and is well built from high quality materials. The leather has a really nice feel in the hands and the embossed surface feels grippy. The elastic cord is really very substantial and should last a good long time. The cover itself is quite stiff and feels like it would certainly protect the Kindle from a battering. The inner microfibre lining is good quality and the inner back panel is slightly cushioned, adding to the protection of the device. It dropped a star simply on price. £20 to £25 would have felt more realistic. I try to look at these things philosophically... there are a lot worse offenders out there in the accessory over-pricing game (look at anything 'ipod' for a start!). Over time, the sting of forking out 30 quid will ease, and I will still be left with this purpose-built beautiful leather case. I can live with that.

Poor quality and poor value for money,
This review is from: Amazon Kindle Keyboard Leather Cover, Black (only fits Kindle Keyboard) (Accessory)
I have had two of these covers in black. The first had a flaw down the back of the cover but was quickly replaced by Amazon only to find a similar flaw down the back of the replacement. I can only assume that the flaw is a glue line or something to do with the manufacture and if this is the case then it is very poor quality for the money. If these covers cost £9.99 or similar then I would be happy to accept a flaw but at £29.99 they are poor quality and poor value for money. Its a shame because I like the design of the cover and it was very easy to hold and use but the quality of the materials and poor manufacturing lets it down. However I was very pleased with Amazons no quibble replacement or refund policy and give them 10 out of 10 for customer service. I have now ordered the Tuff Luv case as I have first hand experience of their products having purchased one of their cases for my SatNav. They are expensive but excellent quality.

This product is very well made, but I can't help thinking it is overpriced, a price of £20 would have been more fair. I like the elastic closure with the small leather tab and the groove for the elastic to fit into - very nice design. The interior material is a nice soft touch microfibre and looks like it will protect the kindle well, once it arrives. In conclusion, lovely product but overpriced.

My Kindle case arrived two days before my kindle. Putting the kindle into the case was reasonably easy, using the supplied instructions. The case really needs to be judged with the kindle in it, that's its purpose and any assessment really needs to ask how well it functions. To say it fit's the kindle like a glove is an obvious metaphor but it does look completely at home once attached. It also does not bulge in any way, so the elastic fits well but does not strain - I don't see why this should not last for a considerably long time. The quality is indeed very good, whether it's worth the money is a personal question, many here think it is overpriced, I like it and I'm satisfied it's a good buy, so I suppose in those terms it is worth it. If you are right handed then the kindle in it's case not only feels and acts almost like a leather bound book, it can be held as a book in the palm of the right hand with the right hand lower corner resting against the heel of the right thumb. The left hand cover is best held open with the left hand. Pages can easily be turned using the right thumb to operate the forward page turn button. It feels natural and it operates well. However if you are left handed this operation is no where near as easy. The weight of the kindle is on your right hand and the bottom age and left cover make it nowhere near as pleasant to operate the page turn buttons on the left side of the kindle. In effect left handed people will find it easier to operate in the right handed fashion - which defeats the whole object of putting buttons on both sides of the kindle. So a very good cover - if you are right handed. For left handers, it might have been better to have a 'notebook' opening with the hinge at the top, giving access to the left hand buttons I've given it 4 stars, if I were left handed that might easily come down to three or even fewer. No matter how good the quality of construction what matters is the quality of use.

Oh Dear,Despite what I heard I decided to go ahead and buy this for my brand new Kindle 3 anyway. My mistake. It keeps resetting the kindle if you hold it at slightly the wrtong angle. How do I get my money back? |
