This product works perfectly, so well I have just ordered my 2nd. The random mode is excellent!
This item needs to be used with an amount of common sense.
For example: Do not point the sensor towards the wall, when the bulb turns on the light will reflect back into the sensor making it think it is day time hence turning it off and on again. Also some shades might also cause reflection causing the same issues.
I used it without a shade and the sensor pointing forwards and found no issues.

After reading the instructions I fitted the Masterplug light timer in the hallway and found I had the same problem as others. The light turned itself on/off continuously. This was because of the light/lamp shade reflecting the light back into the Masterplug's light censer making it think it was dawn so the light turned off, now because the hallway was in darkness again the Masterplug's light censer believing it was dusk turned the hallway light on again and so on.

What I did to make the Masterplug light censer work properly was to put a piece of dark matt coloured paper about the size of half an A4 sheet inside the lamp/light shade on the side where the Masterplug censer is, this stopped the light reflecting off the inside of the light shade and into the censer.

The other option is to remove the lamp/light shade all together.

I hope this works for you as it did for me.

This unit [fitted to an outside light] was returned as the sensor did not switch off in the daylight, it came on OK at dusk but then remained on all day unless there was bright sunlight.

The random setting doesn't seem to come on at all when dark and the timer setting won't set.

Don't bother - I'm returning mine

Total crap. Firstly, the sensor doesn't work in most indoor locations (especially the kind of places, like a hallway, where you're most likely to need a security light), and thinks it's night time 24 hours a day; secondly, the random setting, which I'd thought would come on and off two or three times a day, actually changes every 5-10 seconds. If you want to hold a disco in your porch, go for it. I used it for a weekend when I was away and it switched so many times it blew the bulb. Annoyingly, I didn't use it till after the returns period was over – bad on you Amazon – so I've wasted my money, and a light bulb.

The bulb holder is not very secure so when you mount it on the lamp it wobbles.

The settings themselves are not very good either. You have to press the button once for the minimum setting, twice for the next time setting in multiple increments for the maximum time intervals. The light indicator flashes to let you know that you have changed the time setting but if you went away and came back you would not know what time setting the light holder was on.

I have seen other light holders with a setting that can be moved across the spectum of light settings so that you can clearly see what setting you are on.

The light sensor is not that sensitive, it also switches on when it is bright daylight outside (despite not putting it on a random setting).

Looks nice but not quite good enough.

The sellers are very good though, upon getting my request for a return they sent me a refund before I had even returned the product which is very nice and makes me want to buy from them again. Very good sellers.

Masterplug DDLH Dusk Till Dawn LA Holder Adaptor

I was very dissapointed with this product and I feel it is not fit for purpose as the unit is described on the manufacturer's description and packaging.

I used the recommended bulb type and wattage, the unit was well made and easy to set up with the instructions, but at dusk the lamo turned on and off repeatably. Clearly the reflected light from the bulb was turning the lamp off as at dawn!!

I spoke to the manufacturer's, good help line, but they told me the unit was mainly designed for hanging type lights, and/or with non-reflective lamp shades. I tried to use the unit on three different standard lights, I also tried low-energy 11W and 40W filament bulbs (well within the manufacturer's recommended wattage) ..... the problem was experienced on all lights at dusk. The ONLY way I could get them to work was by removing the lamp shades completely. The lamp shades were white inside as many are!!!

My complaint is that none of this is mentioned on the product description.
If you have hanging type ceiling lights or lights with non-reflective shades then you might find the product ok for your use.

For my type of light/shade, try the manufacturer's 'dusk till dawn socket timer' Masterplug Indoor Power TDD-MP Dusk-Till-Dawn Adaptor. This works realy well, is well made and allows you to adjust the light level that the unit switches off/on. The socket can also be away, or shielded from the light a little. I have no problem with this product, it does the job well. 5 Star

As others have already commented on here, nice idea but they dont switch off properly. I am currently rennovating a property and therefore its not lived in. I need to be sure that the thing functions properly. It comes on ok but then the random mode either comes and off constantly every few seconds (looks stupid) or in the standard security mode they dont go off in the morning or when there is sufficient day light.

I have no lamp shade on mine so this should work perfectly, but it doesn't. After using it for 6 months, it has probably cost me more in electricity usage, so not worth trying and checking.

the unit does not respond to periodic on/off on a sparodic display but flicks on/off about every 15 seconds which is absolutely hopeless. I have consigned it to the drawer as useless
