Nice watch... but not especially accurate
on 21 August 2012
It's a Casio, so you know pretty much what you're going to get. A reliable, reasonably well-built watch that looks good.
I bought this for the solar power (not for the money saving aspect, as there is none, but for the convenience of not having to visit our local watchmakers, where grumpiness is the order of the day if you ask for a battery replacement in a watch he didn't sell you!) and the sensor functions.
But don't trust the measurement facilities for anything other than novelty. I found the temperature over-reading by 6 degrees (when left off the wrist) but have since calibrated. Altitude under-reads and compass is a little inconsistent, but they are fun things to have. Barometer seems to be absolutely bang on though.
Is this watch overpriced? Yes - very probably - but then if you need accurate instruments, you'd probably not even be looking at something like this.
Bottom line: if you want a watch but with bells and whistles as a talking point / novelty, it's worth thinking about. If you are after science-grade accuracy, walk on by.
